Trot: 2nd Workout Even Better

Jeremiah Trotter worked out for the Eagles again Monday, the team and Trotter confirmed.Jeremiah Trotter, once and future linebacker?

Trotter told your Eagletarian that the session went "two to three times better than last time" -- the workout held for Trotter last Thursday. Eagles coach Andy Reid said after that one he was impressed with how well Trotter moved, after a 2008 knee 'scope, which Trotter feels has given him back some of the agility he'd lost, when he drifted out of the NFL at age 30, at the end of the 2007 season.

Trotter wouldn't say whether he feels he is about to be signed -- "I can't say any more (than that the session went well), I'll leave that to 'Big Red,' " he said. But that certainly would seem to be a reasonable inference from the tone of his remarks.

Trotter said that this time, the Eagles wanted to get a feel for his lateral movement. He worked against a pass receiver -- "one of the rookies" -- in coverage. "Obviously, I didn't have any blockers in front of me, but the feedback I got, it went very well," he said.

Trotter said that to say his knee feels better than it did in 2007 "is an understatement."

Trotter was a four-time Pro Bowl middle linebacker in two separate stints with the Birds, 1998-2002 and 2004-2007. He was cut in the '07 preseason, partly because of the development of Omar Gaither, who led the Eagles with seven solo tackles in Sunday's 34-14 victory over Kansas City. At 6-2, 262, though, Trotter is a much stronger force against the run than the Eagles currently possess, in the absence of original starting middle linebacker Stewart Bradley, who went down with an ACL tear in training cam

just found an update. I hope that kid somehow comes through it ok.

According to Shelley Smith of ESPN, Trojans senior running back and Dorsey High standout Stafon Johnson was rushed to the hospital after a weightlifting accident where the bar fell on his throat. Smith is reporting that Johnson was coughing blood and bleeding from the nose. Ben Malcolmson's USC Ripsit blog confirms that this accident occurred while he was bench pressing with a spotter when the bar slipped from his right hand. Johnson is undergoing throat surgery. Supposedly he was pressing 275 pounds when the accident occurred.

QuoteAccording to a league source, former Indianapolis Colts defensive end Marcus Howard tried out for the Philadelphia Eagles today.

Howard recently tried out for the Houston Texans.

Marcus HowardAPMarcus Howard

A converted outside linebacker drafted in the fifth round by the Colts, Howard ran the fastest 40-yard dash of any linebacker at the NFL scouting combine in 2008 with a 4.45 clocking.

The former University of Georgia standout led the Southeastern Conference in sacks as a senior with 10 1/2 sacks and forced three fumbles.

With the Colts as a rookie, he registered 1 1/2 sacks, had seven defensive stops, six solos, three pressures and one batted pass. He also had eight special-teams tackles.

During the preseason this year, he sacked Detroit Lions rookie quarterback Matthew Stafford, beating offensive tackle Gosder Cherilus.

However, Howard was cut during the final major roster cutdown due to the presence of Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis as the Colts carried less defensive linemen this year on the active roster.

Howard has played in nine NFL games, so he doesn't have any more practice squad eligibility
