Conservatives threaten boycott of Concord Mills

CONCORD, N.C. -- Because a conservative-themed kiosk called "Free Market Warrior" will not be welcome at Concord Mills Mall next month, hundreds of people from around the country tell Newschannel 36, they won't go to the mall ever again.

We showed you the sometimes-biting t-shirts and bumper stickers sold there Tuesday, including slogans like "Impeach Obama," "Al Qaeda's 2 favorite days: 9/11/01 & 11/04/08," and "Obama's coming, Cling to Your Guns and Religion."

Our story on the malls decision not the renew the kiosks' lease because of what it sells hit it nerve. It was posted on dozens of blogs, talked about on conservative talk radio, and featured on the "Drudge Report." We got hundreds of emails and comments from all over the country, and all over the world. We even heard from two soldiers in Iraq.

The common theme we heard from many angry conservatives who wrote: boycott Concord Mills and any mall owned by the Simon Property Group that owns them. Friday afternoon, two Newschannel 36 viewers took it to the street outside the mall with a protest.

"I had to come out and do something," Theresa Paseck told us, wearing a sign that said "Support Free Speech, Boycott Concord Mills. "Why the double standard?"

Her husband David joined her. "We come, we used to come here all the time. I won't set foot in the place again until they support free speech," he said. "This Concord Mills mall had no trouble at all showing the Michael Moore movies that based Bush two years ago....I firmly believe that in this nation we can come to the right decisions if both sides have an equally opportunity to present their point view."

Friday, Simon Property Group again refused to comment on the kiosk situation, the protest or the boycott, calling it a landlord/tenant dispute.

Loren Spivack, who owns the kiosk, tells us he's heard nothing from the mall and still plans to vacate his kiosk July 31 as the lease provides. That said, it's apparent controversy sells. Sales are way up at the kiosk, and online at his freemarketwarrior.com website.

If the new health care reform system proposed by Obama is so friggen' great, then why is congress exempt? It's good enough for us but not for them or our president.

Do you really think the POTUS is going to walk into his local hospital to get care when he's sick? Like he said in his speech, he has a doctor following him around 24/7, he's the POTUS. Give me a break with this crap.

If you're going to comment, then comment on the whole post. Congress is exempt also, the part you left out.  Thats the big thing, it's good enough for the American people, but not good enough for the people voting on it. And also, the fact that people will be fined if they refuse it!! Geez, give me a break.

I can't believe some of you guys. I think Obama could take a crap on the steps to the Lincoln Memorial and most of you would find nothing wrong with it. All he has done since he's been in office is trash America every time he is in another country, spend more of our money than any other president and spend it faster, and cake off government institutions. Were are all the jobs he promised?

Congress has an option to choose from among 16 available plans that federal workers get.  Most of them go with Blue Cross Blue Shield.  It's a good plan, but a private doctor at their beck and call it is not.  While in session, they also have a GP on staff who they see for preventive things like flu shots, or emergencies, but their families cannot use this doctor.

You won't find me in the camp of fools screaming bloody murder about how good Congress has it.  It's a non issue.

Tens of millions of Americans have no health care.  If you think Obama's plan is expensive, and your side is lucky enough to defend the status quo from reform, then mark my words you'll see expensive writ larger and larger than you could ever imagine as the years tick by.
