12 years of Republican laissez-faire economic idiocy with Harding, Coolidge & Hoover precipitated the great depression, so in that regard, you're right... we are close to FDR's New Deal.

Bravo to you.  That has nothing to do what I was talking about but you got to post something you think made sense.  Good job.

You mentioned FDR's New Deal and I mentioned that 12 years of destructive Republican financial shenanigans preceded the New Deal.   We're in a similar financial situation thanks to 8 years of Republican financial idiocy.  Even someone as dense as you are can see the connection, right?

You are the dense one here, extrapolating an agrument where there wasn't one simply because you are not smart enough to engage in honest debate.

last night i got to witness first hand just how idiotic 2 people can be when they're both extremely dedicated to their cause.

in la jolla, ca which is a suburb of san diego, there's a beach that has a man made cove on the side of it that prevents heavy waves and currents from hitting the beach.  the area of beach we're talking about here is maybe 75 yds long and 50 yds deep.

after this little cove was built, seals began coming up on the beach to give birth and lay in the sun and the place draws moderate sized crowds to see the seals.

there's a group of people who want the seals out and another group of people who think the seals should be allowed to remain.

so i went to the seal beach yesterday and there was a small group of spectators on the beach, no closer than maybe 10-15 yards from where the seals were lounging.  there were also 3 guys who were camped on the beach and had video cameras.  these 3 guys are spearheading the movement to get the seals out.  apparently, the law that's in place right now states that you can't get within a certain distance of the seals otherwise it's harrassment and then the gov't will be forced to move the seals.  since they are federally protected, if they get harrassed, the gov't will move them for their own protection.

so these guys sit on the beach all day and tourists passing by assume that it's ok to go down to the beach with the seals.  the crowd eventually gets bigger and bigger and soon enough you've got 100+ people on this beach and within a few feet of the seals.  then the guy breaks out his video camera to record it so it can be used to show that the seals have been harrassed which will then force gov't action to move them.

total dick.

on the flip side, some extremist hippy seal lover shows up carrying a pug and starts screaming and yelling for everyone to get off the beach and go back up to street level.  seems logical enough but then he starts telling the crowd to "show some class" and begins dropping f-bombs all over the place.  then him and the anti-seal guy start calling each other names and yelling back and forth.

it was like watching an internet flame war in real life.

personally, i'd like to throw both of those guys into the ocean and let the sharks have at 'em.

why do the anti seal people care that much....just go to a different part of the beach

that's what i'd like to know.  this little cove is on the far right edge of this particular beach.  if you walk about 50 yards south there's stairs that take you down to the rest of the beach.......which is probably about a half mile long.  i've been there a couple of times and i've never seen more than a handful of people on the beach, so it's not like the beach is over crowded or anything.

and even if the seals weren't on this little cove, it's not like it's going to free up this large chunk of gorgeous beach.  personally, if the seals weren't on the beach in the first place, i'd never go there because there's an excessive amount of seaweed in the water that washes up on shore.

it's also in a predominantly business oriented part of town so it's not like a bunch of residents are complaining about the traffic.....which could be understandable.  resturant and shop owners are raking in some nice cheddar thanks to the additional traffic that comes through there so i know they aren't the ones who are complaining about it.

it's ashame that there's all of this controversy surrounding it too because i think it's an amazingly awesome thing that these seals have shown up there.  even without getting on the beach itself, you can stand up on the sidewalk and look down on the beach and get a great view of them lounging and playing in the ocean.  the first time i went down there back in feb we got to see one of them give birth to a pup.  kind of gross to watch, but amazing at the same time.

Any time you want to debate anything I'm here.   Just begin by making a cogent point and we'll go from there.

The last time I was there a seal that had been attacked by a shark but got away crawled onto the beach with chunks of skin missing and bite marks all over its body. Federal law prohibits anyone from helping them so everyone just got to sit there and watch it suffer. I didn't stay long enough to see what happened but I'm guessing it died.

I used to live down the street from Sea World. One day I saw a bunch of protesters outside. Curious as to why a group of people would be protesting Sea World I slowed down to read their signs. They were protesting for 2 dolphins that were being kept in this giant tank at the end of one of their rides. One of the main protesters was on the news that night, she said the dolphins were 'depressed' because they were being kept inside this giant tank.
