You chose wisely IGY, actually the guy is right. Even a decent triple sec works better than pricey and more bitter orange liquors like Cointreau or Grand Marnier imo. You'll want to save the Cointreau for making a proper crepe Suzette.

I'm generally not big on mixed drinks but real margaritas (not pre-bottled crap) really are good for long hot days at the beach or poolside.

What tequila did you get? If it is that expensive you should definitely try at least a shot straight up, it's probably butter. I haven't found anything that beats Patron anejo. Even though it is pretty commercial it's tremendous stuff. Put it in the freezer for a few hours and it pours like syrup and goes down like water. I got myself a 1.75 liter farger that i think was either on sale or more likely mispriced at about $40 less than it should have been.

im actually not a big fan of tequila outside of a margarita...but this bottle i will definitely sip just because of the price

this is what i got

im not disagreeing....i was just looking at cointreau because almost every recipe for a top shelf margarita calls for it...

whole reason im doing this is cause i was at a bar a few weeks ago and they had the best margarita ive ever tasted and i asked them what kind of sweet n sour mix they used and the bartender told me it was homemade they mix it up every morning using real cane sugar...

so im trying to see if i can come close to duplicating it...the key is going to find the exact perfect sweet sour ratio btwn the simple syrup and the lime juice...i think im also going to use a tiny bit of fresh squeezed orange juice as well

I never tried Partida, let me know what you think. It's not hard to get the perfect balance, you just have to experiment. I usually get it perfect by the seventh or eight round.

see i wanted to make a huge batch for the weekend...i literally bought 75 limes yesterday...i guess ill have to try it in small doses first...what is your ratio normally

i prefer my mix to be a tad more sweet than sour but still not really sweet

The ladyfriend's grandmother is 94 and still boozing. Her Whiskey Sour recipe:

1 can frozen lemonade concentrate.
1 can bourbon (using the newly empty lemonade concentrate can from above).
1 tray of ice cubes.
1 maraschino cherry (plus a little maraschino cherry juice).
Blender.

I shtein you not it's so much better than any sours drink I've ever had (although I usually skip the cherry). Sours gives me heartburn like crazy. This concoction goes down like frozen copped butter joints.
Is rjs gonna have to choke a bitch?

Wow, you're going to town. I hope you have one of those electric citrus juicers, they make life a lot easier if you are doing up 75 limes. For my mix I just eyeball it rather than use a recipe and adjust to taste with adding the sugar. At one point I started using a good rum instead of tequila which actually works well too. Don't forget to take the salt into account when mixing the batch if you are going to use it with the glasses since it will counter some of the sweetness.

thats like a whiskey sweet tho...where does the sour come from because if you use that store bought lemondade concentrate with all its sugar content as opposed to real lemon juice it would be a damn sweet drink wouldnt it

i actually have even better...one of those bar juicers with the lever you just pull down...they are awesome and much better than electric

i guess ill just start with a 50/50 mix and go from there

and yeah id imagine rum would work well...basically youd have a mojito instead of a margarita minus the mint

It's actually not as sweet as you would expect. It has a lot of that acidic lemon bite.

well its about the easiest drink ever made so im gonna try it....ill just use a less sweet bourbon...or maybe even make it with a straight whiskey

I love bourbon and hate sours and almost never drink mixed drinks so I'm partial to this drink and have little to compare it to, but it gets three thumbs up from me.

i dont like sours either but i dont consider that a sour drink

i like the idea of it as it can be made in a batch and it measures itself which allows me to not have to think at all

I hate tequila. I used to guzzle the stuff but I can't even smell it now. If I do, puke city, baby.

Liquor stores have customer service reps? Who knew.

Rome

I just found out that the local ballpark is going to have Guinness on tap now.  Who cares, right?  Well, every Thursday is Thirsty Thursday and all 32 ounce beers are $3 including imports.

Drunk as a motherfarger I'll be tomorrow night.
