Smith was projected as a top 10 pick as well; but still it is comparable.

smith was #1 overall a few weeks ago...it would have been a huge shock if justice had even gone top 5...i think youre underestimating the gap that exists btwn a possible #1 overall pick and even like the #8 pick

No, it's really very different, and you're reaching severely.

The fall might be closer to Aaron Rodgers or Randy Moss than Winston Justice...

I'm just going to bet IGY and Feva. It only takes one and a Daniel Snyder might be more than happy to step up to the plate, and if a scout says  Smith was a disaster at his pro day it could be a smoke screen as much as anything. In any case I'm not worried, worst case scenario is I'm out 40 beans but I wouldn't be surprised if he has a heart attack, gets arrested, or got a Lisfranc injury trying to run today. The guy is a mess.

Skip Daniel Snyder... if, by some chance he were to fall all the way to 21 (which he won't), you expect Andy Reid, Andy freakin' Reid... to pass up a guy once thought of as the best OL in the draft... in a year where they BADLY NEED O-LINEMEN, not once... but twice?

Do ya thing... just make sure you write down my address correctly when you mail the check.

No doubt Smith's stock is falling... and fast... but a guy who could have been the #1 overall pick at one point ain't falling out of the 1st round altogether.

Yes, I do think Reid would pas on Andre The Giant Bust Smith. He already has one first round headcase on the OL, I don't think he'll go for a second helping.

Oh, and Winston Justice says hi (only because they are making remarkable strides in the field of speech therapy).

First off, I'm not saying the guy is or isn't going to be a bust.  I couldn't care less how he turns out unless he ends up in the NFC East. What I'm saying is that a guy who was as highly regarded as he was at one point, will not fall out of the first round.  30 teams will not pass on him.  Second, I really hope you see the difference between how far a guy with a mid-first round grade can slip as opposed to a guy who could have been taken with the #1 overall pick.  So... other than the fact that Justice and Smith are offensive tackles, that analogy is a pretty bad one.

I don't give a damn bad he's messed up lately... the guy has a ton of talent, or else he wouldn't have been as high rated as he was before his problems started.  There are way too many teams this year who need offensive line help badly (DET, STL, JAX, GB, BAL, KC, WAS, PHI off the top of my head) for all of them to pass on this guy... and twice in the case of the Lions and Eagles.  Someone is going to take a chance at whipping him into shape in order to get to his potential.

Btw... Steve Wyche on NFL Network says Smith is going to visit with the Eagles on Friday.

You make a compelling argument. OK, the bet's off.

Justice and Bunkley were widely believed to be Buffalo's pick at 8 but Marv Levy ushered in a new and short lived trend of overvaluing CB/Safety tweeners as Phreak alluded to (I think Ngata was also in the mix). The comparison is fairly reasonable because in no way was A. Smith widely thought to be the overall number 1. As many mocks and analysts had another tackle and more had Stafford first overall.

In any case, Justice was a concern because of character issues and getting suspended from USC for a year which obviously predated any draft projections, so it is basically the same as Smith falling after the combine. BTW, I now see a decent possibility of him going in the top 25 or so, and it only takes 1, but I'm only about kidding about the bet's off, just wanted to get Feva's blood pressure up even higher.

Feva

High blood pressure? Nah... I'm keeping cool with the thought of fanning myself with a new crisp $20 bill.

It's only a 20, I use them to wipe my butt, so it may not be new and crisp, and a little dicey for fanning.
