The NHL's general managers yesterday recommended a rule change that would give a 10-minute misconduct to players who fight immediately after a face-off.

The misconduct also could be applied to any other fight a referee believes was staged.

The GMs, at their annual meeting in Naples, Fla., also recommended limiting fighting in response to a clean hit, by calling the instigator penalty more aggressively. The league has seen an increase in violent reactions to clean hits.

The recommendations must be approved by the Board of Governors before being adopted.

so now Cote will spend 10 minutes a game in the sin bin, vs only 5.

flyers need to get rid of cote or carcillo...what team has two goons on two different lines in todays nhl...you watch them now and if carter or richards lines arent on the ice you know they arent gonna score

Carcillo has so much more skill than Cote its not a fair comparison.  Cote sucks and Gratton should be playing over him
