Didn't they supposedly make a lowball offer to Tra and he reject it already?

last wed in the daily news tra came out and said the eagles made an offer but it was nowhere close to what he wanted

I think it's safe to assume they lowballed him. Runyan took the offer over the Jets offer because he wanted to stay in the area, not so sure Tra cares.

Speaking of Tra he's having a charity golf tournament down here next week.  Pretty much every Eagle of note is scheduled to attend.  I would play but it's $250/player and since I'm just a poor public servant there's no way I can afford that.

tra didnt even have to say anything for us to know they lowballed him and dawk...its what they do to older players...everyone knows this...and generally they are correct in these types of decisions...but sometimes you have to veer of course from your regular MO and make exceptions...and they are unwilling to do this even in a year where they cant spend all the money they own under the cap if they tried and they have two situations that cry out for a change of philosophy...an all time eagle who didnt even want a lot of money and a guy that can still play and is at a position where youre desperate for players...hell dawk is also at a position where they are in trouble

Someone should sit Andy down and show him a tape of the 2007 game at the Meadowlands to show him how valuable Tra is.

oh god, please don't ever mention that game again.

Since he's not signed yet it is probably also safe to assume nobody else is giving him what he wants

I suspect the plan is to make a low offer and hope nobody else gives up something much better. Then they bring him back on a 1 year deal that looks like a 3 year, and draft an OT day 1  to take his place in 2010.

I guess that's not rocket science

Schefter called this signing the 4th best move of the opening days of FA.  The Jets getting Sheppard was #5 or #6.  Haynesworth was #3.  I didn't watch 1 or 2.

Bengals upset with Andrews
Coach Marvin Lewis thought the lineman, now with the Eagles, fully intended to stay.
By Bob Brookover

Inquirer Staff Writer

DANA POINT, Calif. - It was clearly a subject that made Cincinnati Bengals coach Marvin Lewis a little uncomfortable.

At a morning media breakfast yesterday, a reporter from Philadelphia stopped by Lewis' table for a scouting report on offensive lineman Stacy Andrews, signed by the Eagles to a six-year, $38.5 million contract at the start of free agency.

"He's a good young man and a good football player, but he's still learning to play the game," Lewis said.

Asked if he was disappointed about losing Andrews, Lewis admitted that he was, saying he felt he had been misled by the older brother of Shawn Andrews, the Eagles' two-time Pro Bowl guard.

"I was surprised because he led us to believe differently," Lewis said. "I was disappointed because Stacy led us to believe that he wanted to stay [in Cincinnati], so it was up to his representative to get a contract done. We felt like we had a deal done and then, all of a sudden, he walked away and that disappointed me."

Attempts to contact Andrews about Lewis' accusation were unsuccessful.

Based on the events that transpired soon after Andrews suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during Week 16 last season against Cleveland, it was obvious that the Bengals wanted to keep their right tackle. Agent Rich Moran had not shut the door on negotiating a deal with the team.

The surgery on Andrews was performed by Angelo Colosimo, the Bengals' team physician, and the lineman began the rehab process with Cincinnati, too. If Andrews was sure he was going to part ways with the Bengals in free agency, he probably would have been reluctant to go through those two processes with a team he was about to leave.

Lewis said he was impressed with the way Andrews was going about his rehab, and the Bengals' head coach seemed confident that his former player will be fully recovered from surgery when the Eagles open their season in September. There is some belief that Andrews, 27, may recover in time to participate in the Eagles' minicamps.

"He's a guy who has worked hard to come back from this knee injury, and I would imagine he'd be ready to go when this season opens up," Lewis said. "That was the indication when he was in our building."

Obviously, the lines of communication between Lewis and Andrews broke down at some point during the free-agent process. The Eagles are obviously glad that they did because it gave them a chance to sign a player they believe will be part of their offensive line for the next half-dozen years.

Moran declined comment yesterday, but when he talked about Andrews' pending free agency in mid-February, he did not sound like an agent who had completed a deal with the Bengals.

"We're both cognizant that we haven't got a deal done since 2006," Moran told the Cincinnati Enquirer. "The injury doesn't make it any easier to identify a deal that both parties feel comfortable with."

The Bengals, according to the Enquirer, initially reported that Andrews had surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate and other ligaments in his right knee, but it was later revealed that only the ACL was damaged. Cincinnati may have been overly cautious in its negotiations with Andrews because it had lost tackles Willie Anderson and Levi Jones to major injuries shortly after signing both to big contracts in 2006.

Whatever the case, the Eagles were willing to give Andrews big money, and they got a deal done.

Lewis declined to say what Andrews' best position would be with the Eagles. He played primarily at right tackle with Cincinnati, but he also has the ability to play guard.

"Wherever Andy [Reid] wants to put him, that's where he'll play," Lewis said. "It's not fair for me to judge somebody who isn't my player."

It's clear that Lewis felt as recently as last month that Andrews would still be a member of the Bengals.
