I haven't bothered to follow this thread very closely over the past few days but trying to lay blame for our current economic situation on one group or another is idiotic. There are a ton of different factors here and plenty of blame to go around. Right, left, center, rich, poor, intelligent and stupid alike all contributed to this shteinstorm.

Focus on how to address it. Like I said earlier, something needs to be done. At this point we have a left-leaning bill making its way through congress. Conservatives are up in arms about it but I haven't seen anyone here propose a plan of action. So what's the alternative plan? Anyone?

The resident conservatives have suggested tax cuts, best I can tell.  The idea being to cripple the government and let private industry work it's magic.

I don't understand how tax cuts alone will reverse the economy's current path, nor do I understand how tax cuts will get this country out of debt.

Anyone care to explain?

Blaming people for allowing themselves to be swindled by unscrupulous mortgage brokers has been my favorite "solution" offered.

They all thought they were doing the swindling.

Tax cuts spur the economy by putting more of a person's or business's hard EARNED money in their own pockets so they can spend it.

So in a country where 3/4 of the working population has debt of some sort, you think that a few extra % of people's income is going to inspire people to suddenly spend all of their extra income on goods and services? Didn't the Bush tax cuts prove that theory false?

Besides, if cutting taxes is the beginning and end of your suggestions than the truth is that you have no real ideas. Which is, of course, not surprising.

My other point, which I forgot to mention, is that several hundred billion dollars worth of tax cuts are already being built into the stimulus package. So if conservatives want tax cuts so badly what the hell are they bitching about?

this is bad government in action

Bush gave mostly everyone tax rebates.  What did the vast majority of those who received the checks do with the money?  They paid down debt or stuck it into whatever meager savings account they could find.

I heart irony.

This is a few years old, so I'm sure the 17.5 billion dollar figure is even more now....

do you really care that geitner made what by all accounts is an honest or at worst an ignorant mistake...i mean is there a politician in washington that has paid their taxes 100% correctly...granted it looks worse for barry because of his ad nauseum proclamations of change...and because of those i myself hold him up to a larger standard than should be expected

but for god sakes 2000 to say that geitner is "still at his post" when dick cheney was virtually running out govt for eight years after all the haliburton stuff and yet you never once called for his impeachment just exposes you as the worst kind of partisan fraud ive seen

I'm not comparing Geitner to Chaney, I'm sure Geitner is a much more honest person then Chaney ever was or could be.  I was commenting on ATV's mention of Obama saying he won't have this under his leadership, I also commended Obama on hitting the issue head on with Daschle in the same post.

But the funniest part is you calling anyone partisan.

ice grillin you

i can call people partisan because i admit that i am...takes one to know one kind of thing.....but it also allows me to call out people like you who are blantanly partisan but to scared to admit it
