There's a lot more to changing Washington than being able to convince Rush-loving Repubelicans from being Repubelicans. It's also a matter of sweepping out the trash and restoring competency throughout the entire government.

You are simply wrong.  Plenty of auto wokers are non union (at Toyota and Honda), and lots of the workers at parts plants are non-union.   You're just wrong, grasping at anything to keep your whining argument going.

I don't expect you to actually do that, but my point is that even the items that Republicans have specifically outlined and published as wasteful amount to less than 1%... your bold statement we're crazy to think there's tons of waste in the bill actually contradicts what the republicans are saying...

And even many of these projects aren't likely to help the economy immediately. As Peter Orszag, the President's new budget director, told Congress a year ago, "even those [public works] that are 'on the shelf' generally cannot be undertaken quickly enough to provide timely stimulus to the economy."

We need help now - not in 2010 (when $356 billion will be spent), not in 2011 and after (when $293 billion will be spent). If more than 60 percent of the spending comes well over a year from now, that's not stimulating - that's just teasing us.

Why are we in such a hurry to pass a 900 billion dollar bill when over 600million won't be spent now, or even this year?

I don't see how you can stimulate the economy without spending.  Cutting taxes will only make rich fargs richer because poor people will just end up spending whatever pittance they end up with on bare necessities and middle class people will get stuck footing the bill for all of it.

Spend like a motherfarger for all I care.  Our children's children's children will never pay it off anyway.
