Report: Former Wake Forest, NBA star Rogers paralyzed in ATV accident

Former NBA and college basketball star Rodney Rogers is paralyzed as the result of an all-terrain vehicle accident, his college coach told the News & Observer of Raleigh-Durham, N.C.

Dave Odom, who coached Rogers when he earned All-America honors at Wake Forest and was the 1993 ACC Player of the Year, said Wednesday that his former star is paralyzed from the shoulders down, according to the report.

"Say a prayer for Rodney and his family,'' Odom said, according to the newspaper.

That sucks.  He was a decent utility player for a while.  I rode ATV's once in my life and flipped it over, so I appreciate the danger.

ESPN.com is reporting that Stephon Marbury will eventually land with the Celtics when his release from the Knicks is negotiated.

very good move by the celtics....low risk high reward...take a chance on a guy who would fill a great position of need is probably down to his last chance and put him on a team with three veterans who just won a title and command the ultimate respect

cassel is done and if marbury can get his shtein straight he would be an enormous upgrade at the back up point

There was a plausible reason Charles Barkley ran a stop sign to pick up a woman in Scottsdale, Ariz. early today - or so he told police.

"I was gonna drive around the corner and get [oral sex]," the former NBA basketball superstar told the cops. He experienced that same pleasure with the same woman a week before, he said, and it was "the best he ever had."

Barkley was arrested on a suspicion of drinking and driving charge.

But not before trying to wiggle out of it, telling a civilian police employee, "I'll tattoo your name on my ass" if the employee would help him avoid the DUI rap.

Barkley also asked the arresting officer if he thought the woman who got into his car moments before he was stopped was "hot."

Cops later found a handgun in Barkley's car, but did not press any gun-related charges.

Despite his lewd comments, police didn't seem to mind Barkley's behavior. "He was very respectful and very cooperative," said Lt. Eric Shuhandler

Barkley, 45, was contrite after the arrest, releasing a statement that said "I am disappointed that I put myself in that situation. The Scottsdale police were fantastic. Now it is a legal matter and I will not comment further until it is resolved."

Barkley had been partying at Dirty Pretty, a Scottsdale club, with retired New York Giant Michael Strahan and a bevy of beautiful women.

The web site thedirty.com published a receipt showing Barkley paid an $1,800 tab-and left a $360 tip-before leaving the club at 1:15 a.m.

Also reportedly in the house: Jaleel White, television's super-nerd Urkel from the 90's sitcom "Family Matters."

Police say they saw Barkley run through a stop sign at 1:30 a.m. while driving his 2005 Infinity SUV in Scottsdale's trendy Old Town neighborhood, adding he was then "administered the standard field sobriety tests after the odor of intoxicating liquor was detected."

The former Phoenix Suns star declined to take a breath test, but was administered a blood test at a police command post. Results may not be back until next week.

After the test, cops impounded Barkley's car. He left the command post in a cab.

"He was handled just like we would handle anyone else," said Lt. Schuhandler.

Barkley was an 11-time NBA All-Star during his 16-year career with the Suns, the Philadelphia 76ers and the Houston Rockets. He also played on the United State's Olympic Dream Team in 1992 and 1996.

He was arrested in 1997 on an aggravated battery charge and in 1991 on an assault charge, and gained notoriety in a 1993 Nike commercial where he declared that sports figures should not be role models.

Knicks center Eddy Curry was slapped with a shocking sex-harassment suit Monday by his former driver, who claims the 6-foot-11 hoopster tried to solicit gay sex from him.

The stunning court papers claim Curry, a married father of three, repeatedly approached chauffeur David Kuchinsky "in the nude," allegedly telling him, "Look at me, Dave, look" and "Come and touch it, Dave."

Curry also made Kuchinsky perform "humiliating tasks outside the scope of his employment, such as cleaning up and removing dirty towels [Curry had ejaculated into] so that his wife would not see them," the Manhattan federal court suit says.

Kuchinsky, who is straight and Jewish, also alleges racial discrimination, saying that Curry hurled slurs at him including "f---ing Jew," "cracker," "white slave," "white devil" and "grandmaster of the KKK."

The sex allegations hark back to the bad old days of Isiah Thomas running the team, when the team's VP of marketing, Anucha Browne Sanders, filed a 2006 sexual harassment suit claiming the general manager made advances toward her and even said he "loved" her. He also allegedly called her "ho" and "bitch."

She also complained the team was allowed to become a sleazy old-boys club, in which Stephon Marbury had sex with a female intern in an SUV. In the end, Sanders was awarded $11.6 million in punitive damages and the Knicks settled with her.

And in a disturbing episode reminiscent of some of the evidence in the manslaughter case against former Nets star Jayson Williams, Kuchinsky further claims in his suit that Curry pointed a "fully loaded" gun at him on at least two separate occasions to keep him from complaining about his treatment.

"Look, I have one in the chamber," Curry allegedly said.

Kuchinsky, who worked for Curry from October 2005 through October 2008, says he was initially hired as an around-the-clock chauffeur for Curry and his family at their Burr Ridge, Ill., mansion.

But shortly after starting work, he soon found his duties fell well outside his job description and "progressively became Curry's "house-boy,'" his suit says. He is seeking $98,000 plus compensatory damages from the injured Knick, whose contract pays him $9.4 million this year.

Kuchinsky says he is owed $68,000 in unpaid wages, as well as $25,000 in expenses for which Curry never repaid him.

"Instead of paying him, they discriminated against him, figuring that it would keep him there," said Kuchinsky's lawyer, Matthew Blit. "Imagine going into your boss's office ... and he stands up and drops his pants and he asks you take care of him. Those actions are unacceptable whether it's in a corporate office or a private home."

Curry, who has played just 2 minutes, 38 seconds this season because of knee injuries, declined to comment late Monday in New Orleans, where he was expected to sit out the Knicks' game against the Hornets.

His lawyer, Kelly Saindon, denied all of Kuchinsky's allegations, calling them "absolutely untrue," and saying he began making a series of claims for unpaid wages several months ago, upping the ante each time.

Saindon said Curry took a chance on hiring Kuchinsky despite a criminal record that includes a three-year prison sentence for a 1992 burglary in New Jersey. He also got three years' probation in a 2004 resisting-arrest case in the Garden State, records show.

"It's shocking that Eddy opened his home to a convicted felon out of prison, and gave him a job when he couldn't find a job, and this is what comes out of it," she said. "The entire thing is preposterous."

Kuchinsky's lawyer conceded his client's "troubled past," but said that was all behind him.
