Ronald Reagan didn't mind so much that the chemical weapons that he happily gave Iraq were used to massacre Kurdish families.....

Do we think appeasement of nations of interest mistakes is strictly a republican thing or is it just a politician thing?

For example we didn't and don't have the political capital or interest in resources to go into Sudan and have stopped or stop genocide there. Neither has the rest of the world for that matter.

I actually hope the world grows some testicles when genocide is evident. It shouldn't be tolerated by any nation and should become an instant uniting factor in the UN.

I agree. We can't, and shouldn't, do it alone though. That's why it's critically important to rebuild our reputation with the world, etc., blah blah blah.

It would help if the other countries who make up the U.N. grew a pair and put some of their troops on the line from time to time, too.

Why should they?  They always have their good old Uncle Sammy to rely on when the evil-doers strike.

The only solution is to pull out everywhere, secure our borders, and let other countries go about their business in whatever way they see fit.   American hegemony has not worked, so let's give isolationism a try.

Jeb Bush considering Senate run

http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/12/03/jeb-bush-considering-senate-run/

QuoteRepublicans are urging Bush, the president's younger brother, to strongly consider making a bid for the seat currently held by outgoing Republican Sen. Mel Martinez. The first term senator announced Tuesday he would not run for reelection, setting off what's sure to be one of the most hotly-contested Senate battles in 2010.

What this country needs is another Bush.
