This shtein only happens in Philly. It's always farging something. I have a really bad feeling this is going to cost us the series.

As for Selig I can't blame him, it's not like the shtein was that much worse that the Rays had an advantage when they got the tieing run. Even dry Upton scores on the Pena hit. You have to remember Upton was slowed down big time by the rain. And every weather forecast I saw said it would be a drizzle, not the windy mess we had tonight.

Not the point, SD....you need to either call it after BOTH pitchers have pitched an inning (before Hamels came out or AFTER Kazmir (or whomever) pitched that inning).

Its a clear advantage to the Rays' pitching as they will now finish the 6th inning with a perfect mound/field. Hamels gave UP that run after being out in that rainy shtein on base for 10 minutes and then having to pitch THROUGH that rain in that inning. YOu can't say that isn't a disadvantage.  :-\

The Rays pitchers had to pitch through the same crap, it's not like it got that much worse in one inning...they were scraping mud off Kazmir's cleats in the 4th and that shtein was on there pretty thick.
Look, I'm as pissed as anyone but I don't think this is some grand conspiracy by Selig. Lets face it, God is not a Phils fan. In fact, I'm pretty sure he/she hates us.

Then finish out the inning! Don't call it midway through!

2 AM forecast.  let's go!

wait that's Hawaii.

they did call for light rain tonight but where did this shtein come from?  Kruk mentioned snow was in the forecast for tomorrow?

The field was unplayable at that point, it's not like Upton had an advantage by stealing the base in the rain or scoring from second. Hamels was just fine for the first two batters and had Pena down but gave up a hit. Stop blaming the weather.

I saw Romero talking. Wtf is Gammons talking about?

Charlie and players will not come out to the podium. And Romero was the only one to say something I think to local media.

yes, yes, yes.  I always thought that was the rule.  If they knew it wasn't going to improve why did these pricks start the sixth?

Did Hamels really say "I dont want to be the next Wild Thing" when being interviewed?

Phils MB said Barkann was pissed about it, but Mitch took it in stride and Cole was joking.

They could have ended the game BEFORE the Rays tied it and resumed play where it left off. They didn't have to wait until midway through the 6th.

The problem is that if they couldn't find a time to finish the game before game 7, it would be called and the Phils win.  I'm guessing with rain in the forecast the next two days, they didn't want to risk it.

Selig said they would have called a rain delay. Those rules do not apply. If the Rays had not scored, they would have rain delayed it until whenever appropriate.

So they could have called a delay in the 5th and resume without consequence

Delay doesn't exist in the rules.  Regardless, assuming there is a loophole, I would think that makes the situation worse: they have to finish before the next game started, instead of game 7.  (How can you start a new game while there is a game between the two teams in progress?)

Mitch was pissed, Ricky Bo almost cursed.

Everyone at the jawn I was at was laughin at Selig. What a tool.
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

PhillyPhreak54

Again...it would not have been called. They would have waited in Philly "until Thanksgiving" according to Butt.

SO they wait to play it and finish game 5, then go to Tampa.

There have been long delays before. The 1989 Series...I think 1972 was pushed back 3 days because of rain.

I didn't get to see that part of the presser, but it doesn't seem to go with the rules.

As for the past - the rules governing weather / suspension / etc. changed in the last two years.

For the record
Quote   (4) Any suspended game not completed prior to the last scheduled game between the two teams during the championship season shall become a called game. If such game becomes a called game and
     (i) has progressed far enough to become a regulation game, and one team is ahead, the team that is ahead shall be declared the winner;
(ii) has progressed far enough to become a regulation game, and the score is tied, the game shall be declared a "tie game." A tie game is to be replayed in its entirety, unless the league president determines that playing the rescheduled game is not necessary to affect the league championship; or
(iii)has not progressed far enough to become a regulation game, the game shall be declared "No Game." In such case, the game is to be replayed in its entirety, unless the league president determines that playing the rescheduled game is not necessary to affect the league championship.

"Rain Delay" in the index references 3.10 (c):
QuoteThe umpire-in-chief shall be the sole judge as to whether and when play shall be suspended during a game because of unsuitable weather conditions or the unfit condition of the playing field; as to whether and when the play shall be resumed after such suspension; and as to whether and when a game shall be terminated after such suspension. He shall not call the game until at least thirty minutes after he has suspended play. He may continue the suspension as long as he believes there is any chance to resume play.

Note the use of the term "suspended".  I don't think this gives an out.

PhillyPhreak54

Yes, but the rulebook would have been overridden by Selig.

It would have been rain delayed and resumed when able to be resumed.

So they should have done it way earlier.
