Obama has been very specific over the last few months as to what he plans to do if he gets elected.  The thing is, though, the right is so freaked out over the prospect of it actually working (to their detriment) that they can't focus on what he plans to do; only what "terrorists" he's palled around with over the past 20 years.

Listening to Limbaugh actually has me laughing out loud these days.  The desperation in his voice is a beautiful thing.

Finally...shore,  I don't know which is more pathetic, that you persisted with your assinine[sp. asinnine] trolling jag so long thinking it was fun or funny, or that your general grasp of these issues is usually so poor that most of us believed you.  In fact, I'm not convinced you were in fact trolling.  Read some books please.

Oh, there are plenty of articles out there that talk about there being no connection between Iraq and 9-11. I choose not to believe everything I read. And your right to a certain extent, I wasn't all trolling. I feel Al Qaeda was behind 9-11, and to think that there is no Al Qaeda in Iraq is just plain naive. Check out this article from your own Washington Post last week. The Al Qaeda are intertwined all over the middle east, and are all connected one way or the other. All intelligence up until the attacks pointed to the fact that the center of all Al Qaeda operations was in Iraq. But, suddenly after 9-11, there is no connection. Osama wasn't even in Iraq. Maybe he wasn't, but if so he hadn't been long leaving and going into hiding, possibly knowing what the United States reaction would be.

And as far as my grasp of the issues being poor, thats just the general way the majority around here likes to think about anyone who doesn't share their liberal views, and is the one reason I don't post a lot of my views. Yet, even with the fact that I don't post much in this thread, you in all your wisdom seem to know that my grasp of the issues is not up there with you and the rest of your liberal buddies. You have no tolerance for anyone who doesn't share your views, and feel the need to denounce them as ignorant. That proves nothing but a closed minded, bigoted, partisan view point. Actually, if anyone outside the CF world came here and read some of your post, you would be deemed insane, or in the least a very radical leftist.

It makes me laugh how most of you think that the only smart people in this country are the ones in your own little message board world here at CF. You want to talk about how I'm ignorant of the issues, but yet 99% of all commentary or posting in this thread, yours included, has been nothing but personal attacks on the Republican candidates, and nothing about the issues. If I wanted info on any of the issues such as taxes, health care, gas prices, or anything else, the last place to look would be here.

The only thing we might agree on is that the debate last night was just a repeat of the previous one. I thought it might be different with the public format. Still, I can't agree with the answers being "spewed" out as some have called them as being crap. They are what they are, policy, and really can't be said enough if that is what a candidate believes and is what he will do when in office.

this is not about being smart or stupid. its about what happened. the case for the war changed over time when the initial propaganda didnt stick. i remember clearly powell going on TV saying if only Saddam would expose his WMDs or get rid of them there would no military action.

so the first reason was not about any connection to 911 or Al Qaeda. it was that Iraq is a threat because of WMDs.

when the reports started coming out that it may not be true they started the 2nd phase which was to say Saddam is a terrible dictator who gasses his own ppl and the ppl of Iraq need liberation. they tried to play the humanitarian card. but no american really gives a rats arse about an Iraq life so that didnt stick.

finally it was the trumped up connection to Al Qaeda. I have no doubts that terror cells might have existed within Iraq or that non Al Qaeda grps with similar ideologies were within Iraq. but it had nothing to do with Saddam. in fact most "fundamentalists" or "extremists" didnt like Saddam because he ran a secular govt.

so using that reasoning, that Al Qaeda personnel might have been in Iraq, we can bomb any and every ME country. Al Qaeda operatives I am sure are all over the world including Europe and North America.

which is why it really irrates me when Republicans now like to say it doesnt matter why we went or if it was right or wrong now we just need to make sure we come out victors.

well it does matter. it matters because thousands of Iraqis died either directly or because of the power vacuum that was created. you dont think that breeds future hostilities? terrorists? violence? the US seems to be stuck in a loop when it comes to the ME. constantly and conveniently ignoring the Israeli problem.

Did anyone else notice the brilliant refining of policy by Obama last night?  His campaign is probably the best-run in history, and the strategy is near-flawless.

For example, he clearly stated that his economic plan cuts more spending than it adds.  He had not previously highlighted that.

He also clearly stated that withdrawal from Iraq was in large part needed to deploy troops elsewhere and shied away from saying he'd bring them home.

Frankly, his campaign out-witted Clinton's and now is demolishing McCain's.  Even if you disagree with Obama's stances or ideology, you have to realize that he is just a much better candidate in every other way.  I'm ALMOST tempted to go double or nothing with IGY that Obama wins by 100+ electoral votes.

So mature by McCain, dont shake my hand Negro

its almost like he backs away and points Obama to his wife as if to say "shake her hand".

on CNN i think anderson cooper or wolf said "its clear McCain had disdain for Obama".

i mean it always came off that way but i guess now pundits are stating as much.

Maybe he'll run the country as well as he runs a campaign? It's how presidents get elected so why not?

The way I look at it he couldn't be any worse than Bush and since McCain has spent the last eight years of his life enabling Bush's flights of idiocy, and is to a large extent responsible for him being President to begin with, there's no way he gets my vote.  The Palin thing was just icing on that particular cake.

Obama's success is so much more then his ability to be smoooth.

'Perfect storm' could give Dems 'magic 60' in Senate

QuoteWASHINGTON (CNN) -- In the face of an economy in crisis and a deeply unpopular president, some analysts believe the situation is ripe to give Democrats a 60-seat filibuster-proof majority in the Senate in November.

I don't think this is a good thing at all.

Obama doesn't need to convince anyone right now - he needs to avoid pissing anyone off.  Don't expect to learn anything from him until these numbers start to look a little less like a landslide...

BTW, I agree that an all Democratic government is a bad thing, but as someone said - I think we need that for a couple of years to fix all the damage that has been done by Bush (ie: re-ratify the constitution).
An ad hominem fallacy consists of asserting that someone's argument is wrong and/or he is wrong to argue at all purely because of something discreditable/not-authoritative about the person or those persons cited by him rather than addressing the soundness of the argument itself.

Seriously though — no one in flyover country says Pock-i-stahn. It's annoying." [E-mail posted by Kathryn Jean Lopez]

– "Re Senator Obama's ostentatiously exotic pronunciation of Pakistan, one thing I like about Sarah Palin is the way she says 'Eye-raq'." [Mark Steyn]

– "Most overwrought pronunciation of the night: The academic way that Obama says 'Pakistan,' with a soft 'a' - reminscent of a 1980s 'Saturday Night Live' sketch in which newscasters over-pronounced 'Managua, Nicaragua.'" [Philadelphia Daily News]

– "Drinking Game: A shot every time the candidates pronounce 'Pakistan' or 'Taliban' in an annoying way?" [Ramesh Ponnuru]

Even the Atlantic's Marc Ambinder liveblogged yesterday, "Noticing that Obama says Pahk-istan and McCain says Pack-istan."

http://thinkprogress.org/2008/10/08/obama-pakistan/

since the hate filled right wingers have nothing to talk about now they are actually critisizing Obama for correctly pronouncing Pakistan. so correct pronounciation is "exotic" but calling Iraq (eee-rock) "EYE RACK" is pleasant?

i can not believe how stupid these ppl are. and how stupid they want the rest of Americans to be.

QuoteMeet the Flyers new hockey mom: Sarah! As in Palin!
Palin, here arriving in Allentown, will meet Philly sports fans Saturday.

Sarah Palin will make a center-rink appearance at the Flyers game Saturday, where she will drop the puck at the ceremonial face-off.

My question is how will she be received? This is Philly, and we, don't forget, boo Santa Claus. Will the GOP buy up all the seats? Are hockey fans all Reagan Democrats?

And are the Flyers taking a risk by doing what appears to be a  political endorsement? As they say, wait and we shall see.

Here's the opening paragraphs of the press release...

Philadelphia, PA – October 8, 2008) Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, the nation's most popular hockey mom, will join the winner of the Philadelphia Flyers regional search for the "Ultimate Hockey Mom" contest and drop the puck at the ceremonial opening face-off as the home team Flyers host the New York Rangers at the Wachovia Center on Saturday, October 11 at 7 p.m.

"Because of the tremendous amount of publicity she has brought to our sport, we invited the most popular hockey mom in North America to our home opener to help us get our season started," said Comcast-Spectacor Chairman Ed Snider who founded the Flyers in 1967. "We are very excited she has accepted our offer and we are very proud of the publicity she is generating for hockey moms and the sport of hockey."

The Flyers have been searching for the ultimate hockey mom in the Greater Philadelphia Region through an on line contest which asked hockey players or hockey moms themselves to submit their hockey mom poster to the team.

Hockey moms and players were encouraged to submit posters showing their hockey mom pride and their loyalty and dedication to the sport via the team's website, philadelphiaflyers.com, by October 7.  The team will award all hockey moms entered into the contest with a free "puck-er peach" lipstick and four tickets to a Philadelphia Phantoms hockey game. The winner will appear on the ice with Palin for opening face-off.

QuoteAn Obama supporter, who canvassed for the candidate in the working-class, white Philadelphia neighborhood of Fishtown recently, sends over an account that, in various forms, I've heard a lot in recent weeks.

"What's crazy is this," he writes. "I was blown away by the outright racism, but these folks are f***ing undecided. They would call him a n----r and mention how they don't know what to do because of the economy."
