you know it hurts even more because it was the perfect opportunity to at least tie the cowboys with a 3-1 record.

cowboys have 3 bad teams in a row coming up. unlike the eagles they will take care of business and beat them.

eagles on the other hand might somehow beat the skins and then go lose to the niners after the bye.

yesterday was the perfect example of this team and this coach thinking way to much of themselves and trying to just win the game by showing up.

i still cant get it...how can you not try at least one play action or bootleg down at the goaline?

and cerevant spot on observation...dive from 2 yds out but no dive from 1 yd out?

Andy Reid needs to go...enough of this bullshtein. While our star players get older and older...nothing changes....the division is moving on and the Eagles chances are very very slim with Fat farg as the coach. He's the next Mike Martz. How he fails to grasp even the most fundamental aspects of football...it just drives me crazy. He's so into his "system" that he can't and won't adjust to anything the other team is doing. The Bears had a hell of a game plan..and they executed it and they won a game in which we should of had 13 more points on the board. Another man that they can fire is Akers. He is done

QuoteEagles' loss squarely on Andy Reid The Philadelphia Eagles lost a football game Sunday night to a quarterback who threw for 17 net yards in the second half, and who looked like he needed a change of underwear every time the rush closed in. Yes, they are singing Kyle Orton's praises along the shoreline of Lake Michigan this morning, because the Bears somehow won. Their four turnovers — two picks and two Orton fumbles — cost them a couple of piddling field goals. The Eagles turned the ball over twice, once leading to a touchdown. Advantage, Chicago, 7-6. Reid is the man who kept sending David Akers out to try to make 47- and 50-yard field goals, in a place they call the Windy City, even though it's been a few years since Akers consistently converted from such distances. He is the man who didn't want to run a quarterback sneak because of Donovan McNabb's contused chest, even though McNabb said afterward he would have done whatever was necessary to win, and even though it is hard to recall the last time McNabb got stuffed on a sneak. McNabb weighs 240 pounds and has the shoulders of a fullback. He can take the ball from Jamaal Jackson and lean forward to substantial effect, before the defensive line gets penetration. Reid is the man who called four successive inside runs down at the goalline against a Bears defense that entered the day fourth against the run and 28th against the pass. Reid, the most pass-happy coach in Eagles history, watched McNabb go 4 for-4 on the drive that ended with Correll Buckhalter getting stopped short of the goalline on third and fourth down. (Buck barely functional, by the way, after getting kicked in the back making a tackle on the pick, which happened when DeSean Jackson broke off his route prematurely and went the opposite way from where McNabb thought he was going.) Reid did not call a pass, or even have McNabb roll out, on any of the four downs the Birds got following Tony Hunt's first-down catch at the 4. It was Reid who never threw the challenge flag, though there were key refereeing decisions that should have been challenged. This debacle was all about Reid. McNabb was fine, especially for a guy with a bruised chest. The Eagles outgained the Bears, 340 net yards to 256. But they converted just 2 of 13 third downs, which is what happens when you don't have the weapons to get it done when the going is tough. And when your playcalling is all over the place.

as accurate as that article is...none of it matters unfortunately. all the press in philly could mimic that same article and to LURIE it doesn't matter. remember this is the year they are going for it all.

to me they needed to be 4-1 or better going into the bye week to be a playoff team in this division.

- Since when does a procedure call (5 yd) offset a personal foul (15 yd)?  I specifically remember the opposite being true.

This really pissed me off, since the eagles got burned by that same scenerio last week

Thank you Jerry Markbreit:

QuoteI really enjoy your column! My question concerns offsetting penalties. Specifically which types of penalties offset each other? I've seen several instances this year where a 5-yard penalty (e.g. offsides) and a 10-yard penalty (e.g. offensive holding) offset. Do any two penalties that are not personal fouls offset? Thanks in advance for clearing up my confusion! -- Jason Y., Chicago

When both teams foul during a play, the penalties will generally offset and the down replayed at the previous line of scrimmage. Under NFL rules, if one of the penalties is a 5-yard penalty and the other is a 15-yard penalty, the 5-yard penalty is declined by rule and the 15-yard penalty is enforced from the previous line of scrimmage no matter where the ball wound up at the end of the play. The only exception to this five/fifteen rule is when there is a possession change during the down. Under this situation, the penalties would offset

It's been so since Reid came on board. It's time for Lurie to realize Reid's hit his ceiling as far as coaching ability goes and that he can't/won't get any better.

Next week's game isn't make or break but it's pretty damn close.

I am so sick of seeing guys like Witten, Cooley and even Boss (recently) continue to make big catch after big catch and actualy contribute while this asinine FO can't find a TE if their life depended on it.  Of course LJ would have been the difference had he played  ::)  I like "Tom" Celeck but he is not the long term answer.

the whole should be greater than the sum of it's parts.  w/ the talent on this team, we should be better, esp. in areas like mother farging penalties and playcalling.

farg seacrest, farg reid, farg marty, farg jj, farg greg lews, farg lj, farg banner, farg lurie....farg'm all!

play calling, management and penalties are like coaching 101.  3 major misses from reid.  his play calling is just horrid.  it's just so much basic stuff he doesn't do and constantly tries to fit a round peg in a square hole and it doesn't.  farging.  work.
Pass.  Pass. Pass. PUNT.  No pro bowl WR's.  Pass. Pass. Pass. PUNT.  Retarded special teams.  Pass. Pass. Pass. PUNT.  "I've got to do a better job."  Pass. Pass. Pass. PUNT.  Running game shines for 3 plays. Pass. Pass. Pass. PUNT.  No adjustments anywhere.  Pass.  Pass. Pass. PUNT.  (repeat)

celek would look like a star if he had a former D1-AA defensive end trying to cover him.

I was pretty confused about that as well.
But of course, if wer just hadn't had a Goddman illegal formation penalty it wouldn't have mattered.
Was someone lined up in the neutral zone or something, how do you farg that up? It's the same formation every time.

Pretty bad when a rookie is by far your best WR.

Jesus Christ, everyone stop bitching about the WRs or the LBs or whatever.

This game was lost for two reasons.

Andy Reid's playcalling, and a lack of Brian Westbrook.
The WRs are not as bad as we thought, especially with the addition of Jackson, and ESPECIALLY when Westbrook is in the game. There's a reason why the WR's look a lot better when Westbrook is playing.

When you don't have a Westbrook, you just aren't as good of a team. Period. Ask the Chargers. or the Vikings last year. Or the Patriots. Or the Colts with a Peyton Manning still trying to get healthy.

When you lose "that guy" on your team, it doesn't really matter how good the surrounding players are. It doesn't matter if the WR's are Desean Jackson and Reggie BRown or Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne. You need that special player to be there and be healthy, or the dynamics of the team totally changes and you find winning games a lot harder.

And then on top of that you have an idiot head coach who thinks running the same play 4 times in a row is a great idea...well, you're probably not going to win the game.
Oh, and you can probably sprinkle some hate blame on Akers for having a big leg but exactly zero accuracy past 40 yards.
