Don't get me wrong - I'm thrilled with the choice.  The moderates are clearly uncertain about Obama, and still remember McCain from 2000.  The selection of Palin makes it crystal clear how far right this ticket really is.

What makes some people angry is the audacity of McCain to make this choice, like we wouldn't notice that she is a joke of a candidate.  It just shows how little respect the Republicans have for the US people.  The fact that he'll still probably get a bounce out of this shows how sadly right they are.

Again, I challenge you... Who would have been less of a "joke of a candidate?"  Name at least 2 people.

It's brilliant because the pick sures up voters who would be offended by your taking of the savior's name in vain.

Those voters make up half the voting block and have had a firm grip on American politics like it or not.

Don't play so high and mighty. The democrats play the same game. The democrats don't seem to realize that in order to get elected, you have to actually embrace the people. The ideals of the republicans are closer in line with the American public than the ideals of the democrats. This is obvious to mostly everyone except the dems (except Bill Clinton, who was conservative enough to bat for either party).

It's been 30 years since the democrats elected a true liberal democrat, and they've spent 29 of those years blaming the american people, instead of looking at them selves and realizing that they are out of touch with mainstream america more than the public is out of touch with them.

This was to be an unlosable election for the democrats. But they have somehow found a way to make this way way closer than it ever should be.

I didn't catch your challenge, but a few pages back, I gave you 4:

Counter question: what makes Sarah Palin a better choice for VP than:
Mitt Romney, governor of Massachusetts
Mike Huckabee, governor of Arkansas
Tom Ridge, former governor of PA, former Head of DHS
Christine Todd Whitman, former governor of NJ

An ad hominem fallacy consists of asserting that someone's argument is wrong and/or he is wrong to argue at all purely because of something discreditable/not-authoritative about the person or those persons cited by him rather than addressing the soundness of the argument itself.

More then 50% of the population does not vote. The religious right has controlled politics because they are a vocal and active base. Some call that main stream but really they get out there and vote. McCain wasn't providing the usual motivation. Palin so far as gotten a real positive response from them. Senoir citizens are another active voting block that politicos go after every season. Obama's been the most successful at involving everyone else and getting those that don't normally vote to the polls.
