Word is Obama would have named yesterday, but his camp thought it best to keep the house story at the forefront of election news for the whole day.

Now that McCain's camp has responded with the Rezko stuff, expect Obama to name his VP today to make that go away.

I thought I heard $4M in the news last night, but it appears that number is high.  Your $1M number is low.  So I looked it up.

According to documents available on the Obama campaign website, the original price of the house was $1.95 million, and the Obamas paid $1.65 million.

($300K less then asking price)

according to documents posted on the Obama campaign website, Obama paid $104,166 for the [additional 10 foot wide] piece of property [from Rezko]-- well above its appraised value of $40,500.

So, looking at purchase price only, and not taking into consideration either appreciation or decreasing home values, he purchased his house and land for $1.79M

Either way, the point was, that Obama is not any closer to the "everyman" than McCain.  Both are rich, both are powerful, and when someone like that tries to pretend to be just like me it pisses me off.

Obama is a lot farging closer.  He didn't grow up in power, among the rich, as McCain did.  His wealth is self made by writing books...McCain's comes from the legacy of being born into U.S. military royalty, plus marrying a very very rich daddy's girl.

Obama has one house.   Not even a second, vacation home.

McCain has seven.

There's a big difference.

And now we're arguing which one is more out of touch with the average person, simply based on their respective bankrolls or real estate holdings.

No one would be in this level of politics if not for being somewhat out of touch with reality, but I don't think there's an argument to say that McCain is more a man of the people, unless you want to point out that his intelligence is more average.

Still, the whole house thing is ridiculous and just another obfuscation to actual and vital differences in their ideologies.

It's all political strategy and both sides will play that game given the opportunity. Getting caught up in this nonsense is a distraction from how they really stand on the actual issues. So really for politics it's business as usual.

Looked up on Google because I was told I was wrong.  I wanted to see for myself.  Yep, that's dumb.

My anger is that this is news at all and the subject of debate (see first post).  Politics is ridiculous, and I would bet that less than 5% of the population even knows what all the policies are, much less knows which side stands for which side.

And I'm not worried about who is more out of touch, what I said is that I don't need a rich candidate pretending to be just like me.  They both do it at different times, and it's equally mind-numbing.
