He signed for less money now so he could get a shorter contract.  He'll be 28 years old when the contact expires.  That means he'll have another shot at a huge payday while he's still in his prime.

PS: farg!  I still had hope.  Ah well...

if these reported numbers are true and i have a hard time believing they are then he actually gave back money

he was gonna make 33 million over the next two years guaranteed and then become a free agent....now hes gonna make 30 million guaranteed over the next three years and not be a free agent?...

it just doesnt make sense

Actually, it makes perfect sense because he would have never in a million years gotten that money from the Cardinals.  NEVER.  So basically he had two choices:

1. Renegotiate his deal with the Cards.

2. Agree to a new deal with the team he was traded to.

Wingspan

I hope this doesn't stop the eagles from making another offer.

Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

Not to be funny or anything, but I just did a quick (admittedly not very thorough) look around and I didn't see this on either NFL.com, ESPN.com, or KFFL.com... and SD's post is from over 3 hours ago.

Are we REALLY sure this deal went down?

no, it was just owed to him.  he basically got what he was owed in his original contract guaranteed in the new deal

what do you mean 'owed'...either the 33 million over the next two years was guaranteed or it wasnt...if it was guaranteed then he gave money back...

romey has to be right because no player is giving money back and at the same time losing the chance to go to free agency quicker

owed, like it was on his contract.  contracts in the NFL aren't guaranteed, not sure if you've heard.

When he signed his rookie deal, it was characterized as the worst deal in the history of rookie deals, and that AZ farged the rest of the league by signing him to that type of contract

owed, like it was on his contract.  contracts in the NFL aren't guaranteed, not sure if you've heard.

the reason it was so high (the 33 mil over the next two) was because of clauses that kicked in in his contract...those clauses usually represent bonuses which are guaranteed...

in this case it appears they werent guaranteed....therefore he wasnt owed them as he could have been cut and not been paid...i thought he was owed them and thus thats why i was confused as to why he would restructure the way he did

QuoteChargers | Osgood unhappy with role
Tue, 11 Mar 2008 08:31:33 -0700

Kevin Acee, of the San Diego Union-Tribune, reports San Diego Chargers WR Kassim Osgood would like to see time at wide receiver in 2008. Osgood is unhappy with his role as a special teams player and says he will not attend the team's offseason workouts as an act of protest and preservation. "There is no reason to come to the (offseason coaching sessions) and run routes all day and run my body down and not be a receiver," Osgood said. "Another year of special teams is going to kick my (rear end)," Osgood added. He also said his agent has asked the team for a trade at some point in the past year.

There's another WR that might be available...
