I hope he finds some time to say things just to piss off Philly fans.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

Something like the Eagles aren't commited to winning and don't value veteran leadership?

In two years when he retires he'll be on DNL and WIP all the time saying how much he loved playing in and for Philly.

Wow, didn't see this coming.  Can't help but wonder what they plan on using the extra cap space on.  Fitz/Williams/CJ or extra lining in the FO's pockets?

Hopefully the first thing.
If not, give it to Westbrook.

GCobb's take:

QuoteAnthony Gargano of 610-WIP just reported that the Eagles have released veteran linebacker Takeo Spikes.  That frees up $5 million dollars and could be a preliminary move to something positive.  This doesn't surprise me at all and was something I was expecting.
I think this is the first shoe to drop.  I thought they would have cut Spikes if the Cardinals had agreed to trade Larry Fitzgerald to them.  If they had given Randy Moss nearly $10 million dollars a year, they would have cut that price in half by cutting Spikes and saving $5 million dollars.

The cutting of Spikes means 2nd year backer Stewart Bradley will be moved to the middle as the starter and Omar Gaither will be moved to the weakside linebacker spot.  This makes the Birds younger at the linebacker positions, bigger and more physical in the middle and better.  It was a good move.

Remember that in the pecking order, the Birds want to acquire Larry Fitzgerald.  If they don't get Fitzgerald then Roy Williams is the guy.  If not Williams then Chad Johnson of the Bengals is next in line.

It should have been so obvious.

my dad just called and said that Eskin (yes, my father listens to WIP....and I haven't ousted him from the family) is blabbing that the Eagles have like no cap space and this just freed up enough to get them to sign some of the younger guys and rookies...and that the numbers on the internet are BS.

WTF is he TALKING about?

How could they even have sniffed at Randy Moss with no cap space?

For the first time in a while I'm excited about the Eagles young LB core. Gaither is much more suited for WIL, and Bradley may prove to be a force in the middle. If Gocong improves at all....nice.

No more Barry Gardners and Quentin Cavers...

i count one: trent cole

tell me im missing someone because if not thats four full years and one impact player

thats what this move means to me...not that hes gonna be a huge loss because he wasnt that good but the fact that once again they brought a player in who did nothing

hes shilling for his favorite front office again..to be fair tho he did say that if they had acquired moss they would have had to make cuts....which is why this move probably means a big time wr is coming in

An argument could be made for Kevin Curtis, even though he's pasty white.

Obviously, the assumption is that Asante Samuel is a difference-maker, but we won't know until he does something in an Eagles uniform.  He certainly made a difference for the Eagles last year, though.

Tell you what....if something like this doesn't happen, GCobb should be John Bolaris'ed out of the city.
