So I'm checking out BestBuy.com for a Blu-ray player (I just sold my HD-DVD player on ebay for only $50 less than I paid for it 4 months ago - not bad considering they are now Beta-futured)....  anyway, the best sellers are the same price as the PS3's..  why would I buy just a DVD player, when I can get a PS3 for the same price that is also a Blu-ray DVD player?

I need pointers on what's important for the players...  who has one, and what should I be shopping for?
The drawback to marital longevity is your wife always knows when you're really interested in her and when you're just trying to bury it.

Get a PS3.  They are changing the Blu-ray spec, and the PS3 is the only player that is upgradeable.  Old players will still be able to play the movie, but the special features on newer discs won't work.

Give it some time, the price of stand alone Blu Ray players are about to drop.

Diomedes

oh, agreed.  wait a while.

well done unloading the HD player tho

With Blu Ray apparently strong arming the dvd industry I was thinking of buying a PS3 as well rather then buying a BR DVD player.  Will they still play regularly formatted dvds?  Because all of my dvds are regular format (not hd).  I'm hoping yes so that I don't have to replace them all.

Sweet.  I'm guessing it doesn't play hd dvds though.  Correct?

No, he's probably just confused.

Just buy a PS3.  If you bought HD-DVDs, shame on you for being an early adopter.  Go put them in the closet with your Beta tapes.

Not so much confused as wanting to make sure I understand the whole thing.  I don't have HD DVDs or Blu Ray so I've never understood the difference between the 2 of them.  The VHS vs Beta thing pretty much explains it though.

Both are basically the same thing, just different formats.  That pretty much sums it up, right?
