How about the political operative he played in Wag The Dog?  That was a great farging role and totally against type for DeNiro.

prove me wrong...other roles they have done successful in other than characters that i mentioned. the majority of movies they do, they play those characters and play them well. am i saying they suck, no, in fact they are great at those roles. pacino has ventured more into other roles than deniro, but as far as those movies being good and or well acted, or even comparable to the movies were they play the tough guy. no contest

how about LaMotta in Raging Bull?

and just because he may play the same thing in some movies, it doesn't mean he is the same character, for example, he was totally different as the IA detective in Copland than he was as the detective he played in 15 Minutes

Taxi Driver - straight up psycho, no organized crime, just crazy
Deer Hunter - small town guy, Vietnam Vet
King of Comedy - aspiring comic, crazy guy
Awakenings - catatonic patient
This Boy's Life - abusive stepfather
Bronx Tale - loving father
Frankenstein - Frankenstein
Sleepers - priest
Analyze This - organize crime boss, but comedy

other than that...yeah, totally the same character every time

id say Taxi Driver is his best out of your measly list. still he plays a tough guy crazy or not. same with deer hunter. comedy or not he plays a gangster in Analyze This. Frankenstein? HA, just stop. The other movies are horrible save for maybe A Bronx Tale

ha...close...if it wasnt for mickey rourke stealing the movie deniro would get a lot more credit for louis...top 5 all time performance for rourke....deniros most slept on role by far tho is midnite run...

deniro he should have been euthanized before he had a chance to do rocky and bullwinkle...the world would be a much better place for it

but as far as entire careers go pacino is incredibly overrated especially compared to deniro who is one of the goats

just because Frankenstein sucked doesn't change the fact that it was a different role, and again obliterates your claim that he is the same character in every movie.  you conveniently try to change the argument to good movies...that is irrelevent, he does differnet roles, you would know that if you watched something other than Goodfellas on TNT
