Adam shtein on Washintong's hire:
QuoteWashington hires Jim Zorn???
I can hear the taterskins fans in unison now — Jim Freakin Zorn?

And they are right.

It ranks as the single worst hire we've seen in the NFL in years. Zorn has no NFL head coaching experience. He has no NFL coordinator experience. He was plucked by meddlesome owner Daniel Snyder to be the offensive coordinator a few weeks ago. I thought Zorn was a terrible hire as offensive coordinator as he didn't even call the plays in Seattle and his coaching roots under Mike Holmgren are with the West Coast offense, giving young quarterback Jason Campbell his third pro offense to learn and execute.

And obviously he wasn't even on the radar for Washington to be the head coach until Jim Mora pulled out and Steve Spagnuolo smartly avoided Snyder's chaotic situation where you cannot choose your own assistants (and credit the Giants for putting up the cash making Spags the highest paid defensive coordinator in the NFL). And Jim Fassel, Steve Mariucci (who would've been a good hire) and Ron Meeks somehow fell short to Zorn.

Washington should have promoted defensive coordinator Gregg Williams to head coach while keeping continuity on offense by retaining Al Saunders to continue to call the plays. With the death of Sean Taylor and the way Williams helped rally the team, it was a situation that begged for promoting from within.

Instead, Snyder interviewed Williams four times before letting him go. And then he makes the job much less attractive to the likes of a Spagnuolo by hiring assistants before a head coach.

Let's remember what the Skins were like under Snyder before Joe Gibbs was rehired. Washington is simply headed in the absolute wrong direction.

Washington fans are freaking singing Zorn's praises all over the place.  I don't know what the farg this clown's talking about in that regard.

It's a stupid hire, sure, but everyone who doesn't have Sean Taylor's blood drops tattooed on their arms knows that.

phattymatty

everyone that i've talked to (non-Extemeskins Skins fans, yes there are some) hate the signing.

I only know a few down here and they were just happy that Fassel didn't get hired.  My buddy Ricky pointed to Reid and suggested that Zorn might be that sort of hire.  I pointed out that the Eagles trophy case with Reid is still empty, though, so...

i wasn't quite sure of why Fassell got all that hate, i mean he did take the Giants to the Super Bowl...

he's not the greatest coach ever, but in a league where Norv Turner and Wade Phillips can get job after job, Jim Fassell certainly seems like he deserves another shot somewhere
I'm the Anti-Christ. You got me in a vendetta kind of mood.

i haven't really been talking about the hiring because it's all a crap shoot really.  everyone has to start somewhere.  who knows, he might be a great coach. probably not right now because that franchise is a joke, but the whole process of how he got hired is much more embarrassing than who they actually hired.

I don't disagree with this.  I was just pointing to the idiocy of taterskins fans as a whole.  They were more relieved that Fassell didn't get the job than they were concerned with how Williams & Saunders got canned and how the entire hiring fiasco was undertaken.

The process really was a fiasco in the truest sense of the word.   Snyder conducts business like the worst sort of arrogant, clueless dilettante and I couldn't be happier about that because as long as he's running things, they really have no shot.

SunMo

yeah, i was just wondering in general why those dummies had a hard one for Fassel, he had more success in NY than Gibbs did in his return

I said something to that effect, probably somewhere in this thread.  I think he's a decent coach and certainly better than some of the schucks out there who keep landing jobs after failing over and over again.

QuoteGov. Ed Rendell, one of Hillary Rodham Clinton's most visible supporters, said some white Pennsylvanians are likely to vote against her rival Barack Obama because he is black.

"You've got conservative whites here, and I think there are some whites who are probably not ready to vote for an African-American candidate," Rendell told the editorial board of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette in remarks that appeared in Tuesday's paper.

To buttress his point, Rendell cited his 2006 re-election campaign, in which he defeated Republican challenger Lynn Swann, the former Pittsburgh Steelers star, by a margin of more than 60 percent to less than 40 percent.

"I believe, looking at the returns in my election, that had Lynn Swann been the identical candidate that he was—well-spoken, charismatic, good-looking—but white instead of black, instead of winning by 22 points, I would have won by 17 or so," he said. "And that (attitude) exists. But on the other hand, that is counterbalanced by Obama's ability to bring new voters into the electoral pool."

Rendell, chairman of the Democratic National Committee in 2000 and previously Philadelphia's mayor, endorsed Clinton on Jan. 23.

Pennsylvania holds its primary April 22.

So the Governor thinks the people of Pennsylvania are too racist to vote for someone black? I guess we'll find out soon whether they're more or less racists than Virginians and Marylanders.

Rendell is a personal friend of the Clintons and is trying to make sure that Hillary carries the state.  No more, no less.

SD_Eagle5

Philly has a black mayor. Their last mayor who did 2 terms was also black. Guess that sort of shoots all kind of holes in your stupid theory, racist.

MDS

The middle of the state is most certainly too racist to elect a black guy. But they root for the Steelers and taterskins. So...please just die already.
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

ATV

Well hopefully it will be just the middle of the state. Otherwise that wouldn't make for a very good defense of your whole racist argument.
