Are more important than your "War on Terror".

I don't know how this shtein can continue to happen without people getting up in arms about it. This shtein is straight out of 1984...

Quote"It's the beginning of the surveillance society where you can be tracked anywhere, any time and all your movements, and eventually all your activities will be tracked and noted and correlated," said Barry Steinhardt, director of the American Civil Liberties Union's Technology and Liberty Project.

What, don't you trust our government?  You have nothing to fear so long as you aren't doing anything wrong, prole.

I no longer trust my government to decide what is right and what is wrong. But you knew that.

dude...what r u trying to hide , who r u hiding from, and are you afraid there are zombies are watching you? I mean, this is over and over again. whats the deal? were all here for ya

This is one of those things where I personally don't care if the gov't has my palm prints, finger prints or ass prints.  At the same time, I think it's wrong to force it upon the nation.  I wouldn't mind sacrificing that liberty but certainly understand why not everyone feels the same way.

This type of attitude, real or not, is what scares me. It's innocent until proven guilty, not the other way around.

yeah, so you don't like it.  neither do I.  what you gonna do, hippie?  march?  I do that.  write letters to congress, sign petitions?  I do that too.  donate what you can to the people most likely to militate against this shtein?  I do that too.  vote?  yep, that too.  (I'm reminded of that hilarious Chappelle "do you know black folk" game show skit, where the only fail given for the question how do black people rise up was to the answer "vote."  Ha.)

and really, i don't think it matters.  It was a nice experiment, but America is a failed republic, which having devolved into Empire of the capitalist corporate strain, is beginning to eat itself alive.

arm yourself in the short term and make plans to get the farg out in the long term.  it'll be a couple more decades before shtein really hits the fan (I hope)..  and if it makes you feel better, march and the like...

I never thought I would ever consider doing any of this but I've already started. I don't know if I should be depressed for being old, or be impressed that I've grown up. I think the former.

Agree with every word of this 100%.

I'd like to hold out hope that change for the better is still possible, but I honestly think that we've passed the point of no return.

Zombies. Motherfarging zombies.

How is Spain these days? Madrid is nice in the spring.

I voted. And wrote myself in for city council. My anti-zombie campaign has begun.

Yep.  I've written my congresscritters and gotten form letters in return either ignoring the point I made, or listing their responses to an entirely different issue.  That is, when they have responded at all (I'm looking at YOU, Arlen Specter)

I'll vote this year, but it will have to be by absentee ballot.  That means my vote won't count unless the number of absentee ballots exceeds the margin of victory by a factor of 2 or 3.  Even if Diebold hasn't managed to rig the election that far, they'll probably farg up hand counting the votes anyway.

And regardless of the outcome of the upcoming election, I'll still be treated like a criminal every time I cross the border between two countries that are supposed to have a free trade agreement.  Ever notice that once you enter the EU, you can travel to any country without having your passport checked or your bags searched again?  27 different countries.  23 different languages. 13 different currencies.  And I can move freely between all of them.  As a citizen of the US, it is easier for me to enter, and travel within the EU than to travel between the US and Canada.

And I'll keep paying taxes to the country whose monetary policy is, as long as inflation grows faster than the national debt, we're still OK.

For now.
An ad hominem fallacy consists of asserting that someone's argument is wrong and/or he is wrong to argue at all purely because of something discreditable/not-authoritative about the person or those persons cited by him rather than addressing the soundness of the argument itself.

Drug testing candidates

Where does this one fall?  Violation of privacy, or necessary government protection?

Cerevant

The fact that they are talking about illegal drugs complicates the matter, but I believe that preemptive drug testing is equivalent to illegal search and seizure.

Again, feel free to test me for intoxication (current, not past) while on the job, but once I walk outside the office door, it is none of their business.
