QB Eagles

The chances of the Eagles going out and getting an elite tight end are smaller than the chances that Brent Celek will evolve into an elite tight end. And those chances are pretty small.

The three more likely scenarios (in order of likelihood) are:

1. The Eagles will draft a WR that will barely play next year.
2. The Eagles will not upgrade significantly at WR. They might add a yawn-inspiring free agent.
3. The Eagles will trade for a playmaker WR.

Magical_Retard

eagles will not bring LJ back.

celek is the starter next season.

they migh add a #2 or #3 WR of another team to be the #3 here but i have a feeling they feel like they are fine with brown and curtis starting.

they will bank on mcnabb being healthy and playing like he did early 06.

i just hope they actually try to improve the defense.

Philly Crew

From PE:

"potential unrestricted free agents after the 2008 season: Dawkins, William Thomas, McDougle, Moats, Sean Considine, Jon Runyan, Scott Young, Correll Buckhalter, Takeo Spikes and Hank Baskett."
"
unrestricted free agents on February 28: William James, Reno Mahe, L.J. Smith, Thomas Tapeh and Kimo von Oelhoffen. Joselio Hanson and J.R. Reed are scheduled to be restricted free agents. "

No big losses this year aside from L.J.
I'm bringing sexy back

PhillyPhanInDC

I just noticed that Joselio is an RFA. I'd be happy if they gave that dude an extension. He's progressed nicely, and is shaping up to be a nice nickel corner. And he's already much better than Will "I'm better than Lito" James.
"The very existence of flamethrowers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, "You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.""  R.I.P George.

Hanson and Reed are the only 2 that I'd really like to see them bring back.  I like Tapeh as well and think he's an adequate FB at the very least and wouldn't mind him coming back either.

James, Mahe, Smith and KVO are all dead to me.

Rome

J.R. Reed is a cripple.  They need to upgrade the safety position, not keep bringing back guys without tread on their tires.

That goes for Buckhalter too.  Great guy, inspiring story how he came back from devastating injuries but retaining guys like him are one of the main reasons why this team is .500 over the past three years.

Get.  Talent.  Now.

ice grillin you

yup the cripple gotta go...in fact they all can go to hell..except...

buck...iused to feel the same way as you romey but he looks to be all the way back to me...and besides does the back up tailback position really mean anything on this team...might as well keep a guy that knows the system

lol @ tony hunt not being able to get on the field because he struggles in blitz pick up...what a joke
i can take a phrase thats rarely heard...flip it....now its a daily word

igy gettin it done like warrick

im the board pharmacist....always one step above yous

Rome

The problem I have with keeping Buck is that if and when Westbrook goes down, he's the primary running back on the team.  If that happens then the Eagles have no shot at winning anything.

Hunt isn't the answer either.  Get a real running back in there and quit giving us duds like Ryan Moats.

Buckhalter used to suck at that too.  Now he's marginally passable.

SD_Eagle5

Hunt is a bust, he shouldn't have been picked any higher than the 5th. Buck is a damn good back up and would have no problem re-signing him.

im talking about reid being the joke...why should a short yardage power back have to know the blitz picks ups to get in the game...use him in specific situations where his strenghts can be utilized...its not like hes the starting half back and getting in 45 plays a game

also your blitz pick up packages shouldnt be that difficult to learn

and this is coming from a former NFL RB like yourself right?

i wonder how Adrian Peterson learned it so well, it's a miracle he was able to play in his rookie year...HE DIDN'T KNOW THE BLITZ PICKUPS!
I'm the Anti-Christ. You got me in a vendetta kind of mood.

for real

id like to see running backs taken on the first day of the draft over the last ten years who essentially didnt play their rookie years because they couldnt learn blitz pick ups

if you just arent that good of a rb then so be it every pick doesnt pan out...but to sit someone cause they arent 100% proficient in blitz pick ups is mind boggling

between this and it taking 3-4 years for wr's to learn the offense is enough to make you go crazy

Buck averaged 5.0 ypc this year with 4 rutd's.  In his one start against the Giants he carried the ball 17 times for 103 yards.  Not even sure why we're discussing this right now anyway since he's under contract for 2008 and isn't hurting the cap.  But if he has another year like he did this year then he should definately be retained.
