quick question, is a living will a necesity for surgery or even recommended?  I'm having shoulder surgery friday, they asked me if i had one(i dont).  If something goes wrong, and the likelyhood is minimal, if my wife knows that if I become a Vegetable, to pull the plug i'm fine right?

Tell that to Michael/Terri Schiavo.

A living will is an absolute necessity.  Your wife definitely can make the call, but parents or other relatives could hold that up in court for years and years, as you rot away inside a living carcass.  If you're really lucky, pictures of you will be displayed all over the news, maybe even video with you grunting and shtein.

Seeing as he's less than a day old, that would be the one on his shoulders.
