I'm gonna go with a shocker and say Akers retires. Him or Spikes.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

Let's just go with a list of possible guys who could reitre due to age or performance:

Dawkins - No replacement
Tra Thomas - Is Justice the answer?
Jon Runyan - See Thomas
Jevon Kearse - Wouldn't matter
Darren Howard - Wouldn't matter
David Akers - Too early/not matter too much IMO
Takeo Spikes - Very doubtful, still played okay when he wasn't hurt.

That's it. If you look at the rest of the team, they are pretty young. The only guy(s) up there I would worry about would be Runyan or Thomas. They really don't have a replacement, and asking a rookie to come in and right away lock down a tackle spot is a tall order. What does the FA tackle market look like?
"The very existence of flamethrowers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, "You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.""  R.I.P George.

seems to me that its akers. and hes been really kind of bad since the superbowl season.
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

At this point I wouldn't mind seeing Akers go.

Runyan is supposed to be on WIP tonight at 7:30 (or maybe it was DNL?)

DC, what about Rocca?  Maybe he decided that 1 year was enough?

I think he's always on DNL one night a week and he wasn't there on New Years Eve?

I think it is probably Tra. He is close with Gunn and getting up there in age. I can't see Runyan giving up knocking on skulls while he's still healthy.
Calling it right on the $ since day one.
Just pointing laughing, and living it up while watching the Miami Heat stink it up.

FWIW from Spadaro:

QuoteI think they will consider WRs.  I think, however, that either a trade or a draft pick is more likely than a FA WR.

Looks like they aren't planning to pass off Berrian or D.J. Hackett as a #1 if they decide to upgrade...

FWIW my neighbor said: has more validity than Spadaro will ever have.

BigEd76

Most of the time, yeah

hmm...looks like Gasperson is back.  They also re-signed Jason Davis, Sampy, Jeremy Clark and one of the "who?" guys on the practice squad (Fontenot).

QuoteFALCONS CONTINUE DUAL SEARCHES

Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that the Atlanta Falcons continue to actively search for both a G.M. and a head coach.  At the same time.

Per Schefter, Blank was in Green Bay on Wednesday, interviewing director of pro personnel Reggie McKenzie and personnel analyst John Schneider.  Blank then will head to Indy to interview assistant G.M. Chris Polian.

On Friday, Blank goes to Dallas for interviews with Cowboys assistant coaches Tony Sparano and Jason Garrett.

Next week, Blank will interview Eagles G.M. Tom Heckert, who can make what would be a lateral move in title if he gets the final say that he doesn't have in Philly.

The broader question, as we see it, is who's with Blank?  Is Rich McKay involved in the process?  Is consultant Ernie Accorsi and his jet black hair hat making the trip?

And, as we explained on Tuesday, why are Falcons interviewing possible coaches without first having a G.M. in place?

In fairness to the Falcons, they've got no choice but to act now if they want to interview assistant coaches who are working for playoff teams that have a first-round bye.  Still, the notion that Blank -- either alone or with others -- is interviewing any potential head coaches without having a G.M. in place is being regarded by knowledgeable league insiders as, well, a bit screwed up.

Is rjs gonna have to choke a bitch?

Let them eat bootstraps.

Good. Heckert farging blows.

The way he follows orders from Reid on every conceivable aspect of how the team is run is horrible.  Horrible, I say!
