No one will ever convince me that Jack Morris isn't a Hall of Famer. I could maybe be convinced of Rice, Blyleven, McGwire or Dawson. Everyone else is a stretch to say the least.
Is rjs gonna have to choke a bitch?

To me, pretty much all your names belong.  McGwire won't get in because of his connection to steroids - at least in the short term.

Baines should be in, at least as a hitter - 2,800+ hits, 1,600+ RBI (more than Mike Schmidt) - his lack of hardware or stellar seasons (rather than a series of very good seasons) and being a DH is costing him votes.

Geowhizzer

Brady Anderson's in because he meets the eligibility requirements:  10 years in MLB, 5 years retired.  He won't be on the ballot in 2009.

According to MLB on Xm Radio, Mark Prior is on the trading block.

Maybe the Cubs will have a dented can sale.

I go back and forth about Baines. The truth is that as long as the DH is a position, why should being a DH hurt anyone's chances at the Hall? It really shouldn't. He did his job and did it well. He just wasn't ever a dominant player. Contrast that with the Mattinglys and Rices who were exceptionally dominant, but only for a short amount of time. I don't know, like I said you could probably talk me into several people on the list but Morris is the only one that truly stands out as a no-brainer.

That's a good point, baseball sucks NOW. But back when these clowns were playing I was a fan. So cram it with walnuts, ugly.

Mets still in the hunt for Johan Santana

I suppose our best hope as Phillies fans is to root against the Mets getting him.

Santana might win a Cy Young Award in the NL or he could be one pitch away from being Mike Hampton.  You never know, but giving up boatloads of prospects plus giving him a contract that could burden your budget for years doesn't seem smart for a guy that plays only 1 out of 5 games for you.

I'm still of the mind that the Phillies should spend every last penny on more offense and hope that what they have on the pitching staff is enough because there aren't many pitchers who could ever make a difference at CBP much less any that are reasonably available.

Good ol Ed Wade.  He signed a veteran reliever yesterday (Doug Brocail) then signed Tomas Perez today  :-D

Hey Rome, what's with this brilliant idea the Rays had to put a giant bug net sail up and call it a "roof"?

The Rays just traded Delmon Young to Minnesota in a 6-player deal in which they get Matt Garza (RHP, top Twins prospect) in return.

Who cares?  Much better than the Mets getting him.
