i still don't know why Miller is on the team...other than the theory that you need a good point guard to help an offense run and thus help young guys develop...otherwise he's wasting away on this team
I'm the Anti-Christ. You got me in a vendetta kind of mood.

you answered your own question correctly...your promoted to safety captain on the school bus.

ice grillin you

hes more on the team because they have no plan b...if they had taken a pt guard last year in the draft then miller probably would have been dealt...but you cant have kevin ollie as your starting one

Rome

He's on the team because if he wasn't the Sixers might not win 20 games and Comcast can't have a half-full Wachovia Center every night.  It's going to be bad enough with a 3/4 full arena and that's with the raging collection of stiffs that team has as it is.

andre miller isnt attracting fans romey...they had the second worst attendance in the league last year and its only gonna get worse...the only people coming this year are the same people that would come if me or you was playing point

I know he's not a drawing card per se but his presence makes the team at least semi-competitive for this year.  If they tumbled off the face of the earth and ended up losing like the Flyers did last year the place would be empty night after night.

Again - attendance is going to be rotten regardless because that's just how it is in Philly.  The Sixers have never drawn well in that market and that's why they kept Iverson around as long as they did.

Everyone knew this transition period was coming and that's why they've kept Miller around.  If they didn't a terrible situation would have become dire and although Comcast/Spectacor has more money than God, they don't have enough to simply flush a season down the toilet attendance-wise.

I dont think Rome was even talking about Milller bringing in fans because hes such a highlight reel. I think he means strictly from a business perspective, Miller does make them somewhat competitive, and it gives the you and me fans something to go to on a Friday night after happy hour, thus keeps the investors afloat for another year before they sell

ice grillin you

they could win 30 or 15 and the attendance is going to be the same....unless you think miller is getting them to the playoffs he will have no bearing on attendance whatsoever

last year their attendance sucked with iverson around for half the year

Exactly, reese.  It's strictly a "cover your ass" move at this point.

BTW: Here's a link to the Sixers historic attendance figures in Philly:

Notice that even during the Dr. J years attendance at the Spectrum was putrid.  The only years they did bang-up business were during shortly before and after the Finals year with Iverson.

What was the attendance capacity in the spectum in the early 80's?

I remember for the Flyers it was 17,077 and then 17,177.  The Sixers had to be slightly higher because of the seating configuration.

ice grillin you

if i remember correctly basketball was 18,168

hockey for much of the 80's was 17,211 then i wanna say it went up to 17,500 at some point....i have a ton of flyer box scores at home ill look tonight

i hope no one goes. whatever it takes billy king to get fired, the better.
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.
