This team is cooked. They can't beat the Skins and Packers to start the season... farging awful.  :boo

So who do we keep around after this season??

QB
Kolb (the future)
Feeley (proven backup)
McNabb (too much of a cap hit to lose right now, keep him around for another year then trade him)

RB
Westbrook
Buck
Hunt
Tapeh
*Think we're basically fine here

WR
Brown
Baskett
Avant
Curtis (maybe)
*We probably need 2 guys here, wouldn't mind if one of them is a healthy Bloom, the other needs to be a starting-caliber guy

TE
Celek
*Would like to extend LJ but it's not gonna happen

OL
Justice
MJG
Jackson
Andrews
Herremans
Cole
McCoy
*Time to throw the young guys into the fire at the tackle positions; may have to keep 1 or 2 more backups around so that you can use the later-round draft picks on the skill positions

DE
Kearse (see McNabb)
Abiamiri
Cole
Thomas/Howard (one or the other but not both; I tend to prefer Howard as he can play inside as well)

DT
Patterson
Bunkley
Reagor
*These 3 guys are OK but we need a big fat-ass run stopper

LB
Gaither
Spikes
Gocong
Bradley
McCoy (too good on special teams)
*AIDS! AIDS! AIDS! Actually, one stud and one project/special teams type guy would solidify this core

CB
Sheppard
Brown
James/Hanson (one of these guys is fine as the 4th CB, but draft a guy on the first day for the nickel)

S
Dawkins (the guy has a job with the Eagles for as long as he wants it as far as I'm concerned; that said if he wants a trade to an AFC contender I'd do it for him)
Mikell
*Serious overhaul needed here

STs
Akers
Rocca
Dorenbos
*We're set here, although it would be nice to get a long-snapper who can also provide depth at an offensive or defensive position; I'd like to see us use a 2nd-day draft pick on a college TE, OL, or LB who can long-snap

The good news is, I'm guessing we're looking at a top 10 draft pick, so who are you guys thinking??  Unfortunately, as is the luck of the Eagles fan, the top talent in this draft seems to mostly be at the QB, OL, and DT positions--which we won't be looking at.  I'm hoping we go WR (Early Doucett, Limas Sweed), LB (Connor, Rivers, Cushing if he comes out), DE (Chris Long, Howie's kid, or the dude from TCU) or S (none worth taking that high unfortunately unless Kenny Phillips comes out).

The BIGSTUD

You can turn yourself around in the NFL very fast. That has been proven. The Eagles themselves jumped from 6-10 to 10-6.

I agree Reid has to go and Heckert as well. Get someone in here who doesn't have these little asinine philosophies about certain positions not being valued. You need to value receivers and linebackers. You just do.

I think this team can still be fixed very quickly if they will just go out for once and land some impact farging players in the offseason instead of waiting for the first wave of free agents to all get signed by other teams. Also

The team isn't cooked yet though. It looks bad now, but everyone said the same thing last year. They aren't a championship caliber team, but playoffs are still a real possibility in this awful conference.

Looking at this team right now though they need 2 new defensive ends, a go to receiver, a nickel corner, and a threat as a returner. Add those things with a new coach like Gruden who will actually run the ball and be creative and you have a top team in the NFC.
Calling it right on the $ since day one.
Just pointing laughing, and living it up while watching the Miami Heat stink it up.

I actually saw Kenny Phillips play when I went to Miami this past weekend.  Wasn't too impressed with him, but have to keep in mind he's only a sophmore.  The angles he took were horrible, he could catch up from his mistakes, but it was an FIU team.  Angles can be taught and some mocks (well, s. wright's) have him as high as 5.  Touted him as the next Ed Reed.  That's pretty damn high praise, I'd refer to him more as an ~90% Sean Taylor.  But imagine someone like that + Dawk.

I don't know if we draft CB and move Sheldon (good fit for sheldon, but what do we have as cb's?  W. James showed he can suck some big cock tonight).
Start at WR if a stud is available?
a fatty DT?

I'm not sure what our #1 need is CB, SS, or WR...?  (besides management that is)

I think we have enough DE's.

The thing I like about Gruden is even though he ran the ball for like 3.4 yards vs us (in the championship game?), he still ran it more than 4 times.  He's also creative in the sense that he came out running a hurry up offense so Hugh couldn't step on the field.  What did we do last week vs the Packers?  Ran our slow ass passy ass happy offense allowing the pack to sub in half the line and put in pass rush "specialists" to kill McNabb.  Great adjustment by Reid, what a fargtard.
Pass.  Pass. Pass. PUNT.  No pro bowl WR's.  Pass. Pass. Pass. PUNT.  Retarded special teams.  Pass. Pass. Pass. PUNT.  "I've got to do a better job."  Pass. Pass. Pass. PUNT.  Running game shines for 3 plays. Pass. Pass. Pass. PUNT.  No adjustments anywhere.  Pass.  Pass. Pass. PUNT.  (repeat)

The DL needs to be rebuilt.  The skins were starting backups on the entire right side, and the Eagles couldn't get any pressure and only performed so-so against the run.

Kearse needs to be sold for glue.  Howard's done.  Cole is a reserve pass rusher.  Patterson's been spotty.  Frankly, Bunkley is the only guy with a solid right to start on that line, unbelievably enough.

lately ive been thinking that reid would/could resign as soon as even this next offseason...but after thinking about it overnight its not gonna happen due to the kolb pick...they are attached now for the next four five years...reid didnt trade out of the first round and take this guy when many other positions needed to be addressed so that he could quit a year after pick

Lurie needs to decide today that Reid would be better served taking a very extended leave of absense to take care of his family.

How much of this is Banner's fault?  We know that he's extremely frugal when it comes to opening the checkbook.  He's a great cap manager but exactly how much imput does he really have when it comes to signing free agents or re-signing current players?  I'm of the opinion that he's just as much at fault as Reid is when it comes to missing out on certain players.  When the Eagles brought him in, he was hailed as some sort of salary cap guru and made a name by signing players to long term deals that were cap friendly (McNabb, Dawkins, etc).

But with the exception of the taterskins who still spend like they print their own money, most teams in the league have followed the Eagles example and there are very few out there who seem to be in salary cap hell.  So much like the NFC has caught up to and passed the Eagles on the field, it seems like a lot of cap guys out there have caught up to and maybe even passed Banner in managing a teams budget.

Thoughts?

This year's issues aren't his fault at all.

Frankly, with smarter coaching, the assembled player personnel could easily be 2-0.

I've thrown out some criteria before, but it really boils down to this: they will milk this cash cow until it is dry.

How many people decided not to renew their season tickets after the last 6-10 season?  How many of you will not renew them after this year?
How many people on this board would jump at the opportunity to get season tickets for face value?
How many people on this board have purchased licensed NFL apparel in the last 12 months?
How many people on this board pay to watch the Eagles (NFL Sunday Ticket, Bars)?

Until seats are empty and the cash stops flowing, it would be a moronic business decision to change anything.  While the current level of frustration may seem to indicate otherwise, the fact that the Eagles haven't gone 2 years without making the playoffs gives the fanbase at large hope.  As long as there is hope, the cash will continue to flow.  As long as the cash continues to flow, Andy Reid will be the head coach of the Eagles.

Get used to it.
An ad hominem fallacy consists of asserting that someone's argument is wrong and/or he is wrong to argue at all purely because of something discreditable/not-authoritative about the person or those persons cited by him rather than addressing the soundness of the argument itself.

That is pretty much the conclusion that I have drawn.  He wouldn't take Kolb unless he was planning on being here for the long haul.

yep.
the personnel doesn't match the scheme.
can't run a pass-first, west coast offense with an inaccurate qb & wr's who can't get open or get yac.
lemonade was a popular drink and it still is

Andy Reid met Larry Brown out for dinner before the game...dont be so sure

i put far more of the blame on reid/heckert than banner...banner can be blamed for things like letting mike lewis go in favor of considine and perhaps the team not going all out for certain free agents...but in general reid and heckert have whiffed on so many players its not even funny....i mean have they hit big on a player whether it be a FA or draft pick since andrews...i cant think of any...thats going on four years now...and it shows all across the roster...there is a dearth of talent...

and now this year hunt cant get on the damn field and they cut two picks in camp

What does that have to do with anything? You are reading way too much into the situation.
