QuoteNews: Running back Larry Johnson joined the Kansas City Chiefs for practice Tuesday after having been absent from training camp since it opened July 27. Johnson was in uniform, taking a swing pass from quarterback Brodie Croyle. Chiefs spokesman Bob Moore said Johnson will speak to the media Wednesday.

I'm glad to hear this. Was anyone else thinking it could hurt his Fantasy value if he held out much longer?

FLAGSTAFF - As Cardinals training camp comes to a close this week, so does a player's chance to make the starting lineup for the regular-season opener.

The Cardinals break camp at Northern Arizona on Thursday and play San Diego Saturday night in Glendale. By this time next week, coach Ken Whisenhunt wants his lineup for opening day set, and the starters don't figure to play much in the final preseason game against Denver. That makes the three final days of camp and the Chargers game all the more important for players and coaches.

Change has been a constant throughout camp. In Monday afternoon's practice, Rod Hood replaced Antrel Rolle at left cornerback. The move was significant because Rolle was the eighth overall pick in the 2005 draft, and it backs up the promise by Whisenhunt that the best players will start, regardless of salary and draft status.

"That's their call," Rolle said Monday. "I just have to go and play my game and play the way I know I can play. Right now, I just have to fight through it."

Rolle has been called for pass interference twice this preseason and also gave up a long pass against the Texans last Saturday.

Hood, a free-agent acquisition from Philadelphia, has played well throughout camp and broke up a potential touchdown pass against Houston. Entering camp, it was thought he would compete with Eric Green for the right cornerback spot, but Hood and Green have been the top corners in camp.

"The competition on this team, and in the secondary, is going to make the whole team better," Hood said. "Coach Whisenhunt said he was going to give me a fair chance to start, so I think that was one of the biggest drawing points to me coming here."

Cornerback is not the Cardinals' only concern. Here a few positions where the team needed to find answers when camp started:
Good for Rod

Well, it's not like they're paying him minimum salary or anything.  They certainly expected he'd compete for a starting job.  But still, it's good to see the guy get a real shot to start despite having to fight through a younger high draft pick to do it.

I hate that the Rams drafted him.  I would have loved to pick him up, but since the Eagles couldn't, ANY OTHER team other that St. Louis would have fit me fine.

How did his leg look?  I wonder if he still has to use that brace.
