Rome

My sister sent me down a bunch of stuff she found from my mother's estate that was finally settled two and a half years after her death.  I was going through a photo album and came across a bunch of autographs I had gotten when I was a kid at a Flyers charity softball game.

On one piece of paper I have the following:

Bob Clarke, Paul Holmgren, Mel Bridgman, Gene Hart, Tom Gorance, Bob Dailey, Reggie Leach, Bill Barber & Rick MacLeish.

I'm rich!

Get fat, pay more for your health insurance.  That's the way things ought to be.  You want the freedom to kill yourself?  Fine, just don't make the rest of us pay for it.

I can't see this concept taking off at all in the group employee benefit market at all.  If you are going to penalize one unhealthy lifestyle, you are going to have to crack down on all of other high-risk lifestyles such as those who drink, smoke, use drugs, overly sexually active or are involved in other high risk activities like scuba diving, etc. This will leave you with about 3% of the population who wrap themselves in bubble wrap, while hiding in the basement and thereby defeat the purpose of group insurance.

It reminds of this poem:

When the insurance company came for the fatties,
I remained silent;
I was not a lard ass.

When they jacked up the rates for smokers,
I remained silent;
I was not a smoker.

When they came for the high-risk sexual participants,
I did not speak out;
I could not get laid in a whore house.

When they came for the casual drinker,
there was no one left to speak out.

This is pretty much what I have to say on the matter but not in the form of a poem...

The last time I weighed below 162 pounds at 5'9 I looked like death. I'm like 175 right now, and I look a lot more "healthy". Those charts are rediculous.

Anyone who's 6'4 should not be weighing no 156 farging pounds.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

According to that chart, this guy is the picture of health.

Well, as someone pointed out, this is what the life insurance companies do anyway, so why not?  They don't have to cancel all coverage because of one risk factor or another - just put a rider in saying that they won't cover the effects of that risk factor.  You want to smoke?  Fine.  Break your leg and they'll fix it.  Get lung cancer or have a heart attack?  Tough shtein...that's what you signed up for.
An ad hominem fallacy consists of asserting that someone's argument is wrong and/or he is wrong to argue at all purely because of something discreditable/not-authoritative about the person or those persons cited by him rather than addressing the soundness of the argument itself.

LOL...I'm 6'4", and I haven't been below 200 since high school (and that was a long time ago).

I'm the same height, and it's been since college since I've seen 200.

If I ever reach 156, it will be in the last stages of stomach cancer or something like that.

Real close to me, too.  I'm 6'5", and I weighed 165 in HS, and the wind would sometimes blow me over.  Went to college, an d discovered a man can live on a large pizza and a 12 pack every night, and ballooned to 225 in one year.

And since then, I've kept on ballooning......
The drawback to marital longevity is your wife always knows when you're really interested in her and when you're just trying to bury it.

I wish someone would have warned me about the post-adolescent metabolism change. On top of that, I married into a family of big eaters, learned terrible habits, and acquired a sedentary office job.

I'm 5'11" about 215-220 depending on how many shteins a day.  Before joining my office job 6 years ago i worked outside or in a restaurant so i was always moving.  I was about 175lbs pretty solid, now i'm a fatty, and yes dio its because i'm lazy.  I drink beer every night, eat late, and sit in an air conditioned office all day.  That said, cutting out beers on weeknights makes me lose nearly 10lbs in a week and a half
