I just accepted a new job with a company primarily known as an investment firm.  Not only will I be making significantly more money, but I'll be working for a company best known for working with money.

MONEY MONEY MONEY.

But back to the original topic, "money managers" and "investment counselors" and "financial advisers" are hit or miss.  The best bet is to choose one that has an idea of what you actually want to do.  Sometimes, it's someone affiliated with an insurance company or mutual fund pusher... but that's somewhat ok as long as they don't charge you up front as well as trying to pimp you on their products.
