I predict we all start rooting for another team.
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

ice grillin you

you gotta root for playoffs first....obviously

but since everyone but easy knows that isnt possible you next must root for an implosion...the worst thing that can happen is that they just miss out on the playoffs again and blame it on injuries or something...then the next thing you know charlie is back...they do some tweaking of the team rather than a overhaul and 12 months from now we are right back in this same place again...with people posting how many games back of the mets they are in june
i can take a phrase thats rarely heard...flip it....now its a daily word

igy gettin it done like warrick

I would guess that Charlie is the scapegoat if they miss the playoffs.  If they're not in, he's gone.

Unfortunately, it won't change a fundamentally flawed team.

igs what can an implosion do? utley and howard 3/4 is as good as you can get. victorino is a solid player rollins is a top 10 ss in mlb. hamels is an ace. myers could either be a good closer or a solid starter. theyre locked into burrell, moyer and gordon for 1 more year, eaton for 2 more.

what they need is new ownership and a new front office. but realistically just hope that they get good starting pitching.

i tend to agree with this...but if they miss the playoffs by one or two games i would not be surpsied at all if they brought charlie back and used the garcia/myers/gordon injuries as an excuse...."with a closer that could have gotten us just one or two extra saves wed be playing baseball right now"....something to that effect

the organization loves him since hes a yes man and is cheap...and the players really love him which is something the phils front office believes is very important

If the Phils miss the playoffs and they bring Manuel back, I'm boycotting next season.

Oh, hell, who am I kidding.  I'll still watch the games.  I'm hooked on baseball.

igs what can an implosion do?

it would guarantee getting rid of charlie for starters

it will make me feel better to see the whole franchise suffer in the way they make me suffer

who knows maybe a few of the owners will even decide to sell if it got real ugly and offseason ticket plans didnt move

as fot the team itself

victorino sucks...he doesnt know how to play the game...one of the dumber players ive ever seen and just has no interest in being any other way...rollins is pretty moronic himself...stealing yesterday down 7-3...wtf?....but victorino is all that without the numbers

howard is not the ultimate four hitter...he strikes out at a historic rate .250 (dont talk to me about last year...what you see now is basically what hes gonna be forever)...homerun or strikeout...am i saying get rid of him...no but dont make him out to be better than what he is...the league has caught up to him and hes easy to pitch to now...if he gets a hold of one theres a decent chance its gonna go but all to often he catches air...he has ten more k's than homers and rbi combined...that is atrocious

utley is insanely good....hamels is a future cy young winner...the rest of the pitchers are at best #3 starters and mostly 4 and 5's....and they have nothing in the pipeline anywhere close to being a major league starter...blow this shtein up...they wont do that tho...cause all they wanna do it keep making money at the park and a team that can be in the wild card race each year...even if they have no chance at ever winning it...is the perfect situation for these owners

Igy,

I think you're wrong about Howard.  He's basically in his sophomore slump (yes, I know that it's technically his third year, but second full).  Will he be the player he was last season?  Probably not.  But I don't think he's a .230 or .250 hitter.  I see a consistent .275-.290, 40 HR guy when he matures.

The pitchers have made the adjustment.  Now it's his turn.

no shtein if they sell the team im doing flips in the hood with the brothas

what they need to do is keep the lineup as is. it scores runs. the starting pitching is still shtein. farging poney up the cash and get the best damn arm on the market. you combine that with hamels (ace), eaton (4), moyer (4) and someone else (kendrick? lieber) and the rotation is good. this was supposed to be freddy garcia, but he was fat and hurt. what the farg. its just typical phillies.

i really really hope your right...because if howard is not what they expect him to be and what most people think he is then they are set back years....not only would they have no pitching future but there would basically go the middle of their lineup...and as bad as the system is in terms fo pitching its even worse in hitting...i believe baseball america has their offensive prospects rated 2nd worst in the majors

#3088
The one caveat to my belief on Howard is his weight.  I think a large part of his problems this year are related to the fact that Howard reported to spring training out of shape, and it's thrown him off (and his hammy problems are related as well).  If Howard comes back hungry from this season, I really believe that he can be a multiple-year all-star.  If this season is symptomatic of a deeper-set attitude or laziness problem, then you could be right after all.

His other problem has been a tendency to pull the ball too much.  That is the adjustment the pitchers have made:  hard in, soft oot and breaking away.  He's pulling off of that soft stuff and hitting the ball right into the teeth of the shift.

I am seeing it on the positive side, which is usually against my nature.  But he's got a sweet, powerful lefty swing that you see in maybe one in a ten thousand major leaguers.  To think that talent could be wasted would be a tragedy (only baseball-wise, of course).  Of course, this is the Phillies we're talking about.
