the eagles dont want their te's to block...the west coast offense is predicated on having a pass catching te...a guy that can not only stretch the field but who can find space and then yak it up...not one that stays in and blocks...its not as tho the eagles run enough to have a blocking te anyway...but as shown last year when they were forced to run after mcnabb went out they did it with no problem

lj's lack of blocking ability is such a forced and trite argument these days...its so 2004 and frankly it makes me sick

He's has WR abilties and a TE body, i dont want to lose LJ, they cant backfill his talent without getting an Olsen or other fast young TE.  If blocking is a concern, just use a frigging jumbo package with MJG as a TE.

L.J. is not elite, but he's perfect for what the Eagles like to do.  That said, if they want to replace him with someone that's more blocking-oriented and continue to give McNabb WR's and RB's that can catch the ball, that's fine too.

Also, I think all the hatred for T.O. masks the fact that he was the most elite receiver ON THE FIELD to ever don an Eagles uniform... so comparing his numbers to others just isn't fair.  McNabb knew he had to feed the ball to him to him to keep him happy, and he did just that.

Gates is the only one on that list I'd trade L.J. for straight up.  Heap is also superior when healthy, but the guy is listed as questionable nearly every week.  He plays, but not at 100% very often.

The Philadelphia Daily News reports that the Eagles will try to sign tight end L.J. Smith to a new contract between now and next February. If a deal can't be reached, the team could use the franchise tag on Smith. The '07 franchise number for a tight end is just $4.371 million.
