Anyone seen a good movie lately?

I watched Rumor Has It... last night.  I usually like Jennifer Aniston but she was annoying as hell in that movie.  I did get a kick out of watching Kevin Costner seemingly counting the millions of dollars in his head he was making for starring in that pile of crap as he was spewing out outrageously awful line after line, though.  If you ever want an example of an actor "mailing it in" to point to, his performance would be a perfect one to cite.

The chick from American Beauty was in it too.  She's got some freaky fricken googly eyes going on.

Everything about the movie was awful.  The plot was ridiculous, the acting was horrible, the "chemistry" between Costner & Aniston was non-existent and their scenes together were more than a little uncomfortable to watch.

Anyway - a rare 0/5 stars for that pile of shtein from me.  Completely unwatchable in almost every way.

He was good in "The Guardian".  The Guardian actually suprised me as being a good movie.

He was excellent in Thirteen Days as well.

I'm not anti-Costner.  I applaud him stealing millions of dollars and getting to make out with Jennifer Aniston on screen.   That doesn't mean I have to stomach watching it, though.

Oh, I did watch "Children of Men" a couple of nights ago.  I was quite disappointed, and not for the obvious reasons of a fragmented plot with no real resolution or a generally depressing subject matter in general.

Basically, I thought the acting was averagish across the board, with the best acting turned in by the relatively-unknown Claire-Hope Ashteiney.  Owen did OK, but he's coming across like the same guy in every movie it seems.

I just didn't see the premise as meaningful as it should have been, and the storyline (even amongst the wild premise) is far-fetched.  It had a lot of promising elements and potential but really just ended up being a "chase" movie more than anything.

It's a good film - one that's certainly worth seeing... but I was expecting more, for whatever reason.

3/5.

Children of Men was awesome. It's a futuristic movie. How can it be far-fetched, when dealing with the future. It's not meant to be taken literally. It's a sci-fi flick for christ sakes. That being said, I too wanted more from the movie, but I think what I wanted was a sequel. The story could go on and on...can't really go into detail cause i don't want to spoil it for those who havn't seen it.

Just off the top of my head.... "The Departed" and "Blood Diamond" were both much better.

I can buy that to an extent.  Like I said, though... the biggest reasons I didn't like the movie were the relatively pedestrian acting performances and the general disjointedness of the plot.  Also, like I said... I was really expecting a lot.

blood diamond wasnt even a good movie much less better than com

departed was a phenominal acting showcase but not a great movie...especially after seeing it for a second time

the steadicam shots in com by themselves are better than the departed or bloood diamond....just amazing stuff

i saw children of men over the weekend too.  i liked it a lot but think my higher than average expectations for it made me like it less.  if i had seen it 3 months ago when i wanted to, i think i would have liked it more.  i know that probably doesn't make sense but i hadn't wanted to see a movie that bad in a while and for some reason never got around to it until it came out on dvd.

i thought the concept was really cool but they didn't do enough with it.

and even though i did think the steadicam scenes were cool, it actually annoyed me when there was blood on the camera lens for about 3 minutes.  all i could think of was that there was a cameraman next to him the whole time.

it def was much better in the theater....specifically the steadicam shots...made you feel like you were there...

i dont think its an all time great movie or anything but i thought it was very very good and one of the better filmed movies in a long time...maybe since the thin red line

That about sums it up.  Nicely done.
