From what I've read, looking to change it to both teams guarenteed one possession.  If the score is still tied at the end of one regulation quarter, it would result in a tie.

I think the current NFL OT rule is bullshtein at best.  Teams can literally lose playoff spots by the flip of a coin in some cases, and with the huge dollars at stake it shouldn't come down to that.
The drawback to marital longevity is your wife always knows when you're really interested in her and when you're just trying to bury it.

Wingspan

I read somewhere that statisically it is that while most teams that win the coin toss do win the game (i think it's 2/3's or so) it's actually a fairly low number on OT games decided on the first possession.

Even in regulation, you cannot gaurantee a possession to anyone, you can onside and recover all game if you want. IF you write in the rules that each team is guaranteed 1 possession, then your changing the game in OT...

Even if I am wrong, i like OT as it is. I hate the college format.
Connection Problems

Sorry, SMF was unable to connect to the database. This may be caused by the server being busy. Please try again later.

I think since the merger it's actually almost 50-50. The theory is that if you get the ball first and get a halfway decent drive, then obviously the game can be yours, however, if you go 3-and-out or get few yards then the other teams is almost in field goal range when they get the ball back.

I like the NFL OT format too.

I don't get the whole "both teams need a chance" shtein. Want a chance? Play defense and special teams and get the goddamn ball for your offense.

What needs to be fixed is the pass interference penalties. Like in the Dallas game at The Linc this year where Mike Lewis had that 57yd penalty...thats how games are lost late. Chuck it up there and see what happens..FLAG...FG..game over.

Make NFL PI like NCAA PI...15yd.

The NFL format is so clearly better than the college format that I tend to believe that anyone thinking otherwise should be murdered in front of their family with SunMo watching. And eating a bag of cheese filled pretzels.

I want some cheese filled pretzels.

Jerks.
Is rjs gonna have to choke a bitch?

Let them eat bootstraps.

I like the possession format. Have a coin toss and flip, kick off, and its a normal game. Stop them 3 and out, they punt, get the ball and score = game. team scores a touchdown, they then kick off and the other team gets a chance to match it.
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

Cerevant

I find the college overtime entertaining because it downplays the role of the kicker / holder.  Eagles fans: Tommy Hutton.  Dallas Fans: Tony Romo.  I'm sure there are plenty of other examples.

The problem is that in the NFL the game would just go on forever...teams are much more evenly matched at the pro level.
An ad hominem fallacy consists of asserting that someone's argument is wrong and/or he is wrong to argue at all purely because of something discreditable/not-authoritative about the person or those persons cited by him rather than addressing the soundness of the argument itself.

no this year all they were voting on was to change the yardline of the kickoff

i dont like the format but to say you lose a game bevcause of a coin flip is not really true...you still gotta play the game...like phreak said D up and the coin flip means nothing

i still think both teams should have the ball at least once tho....because of television tho it will never happen

i like both overtimes college and pro...but i wouldnt want the college OT in the pros...the college OT is dope and its perfect for the college game but thats where it should stay

QB Eagles

Wow. Athletes are dumb, but it looks like ex-Eagles are dumber than most:

QuoteATLANTA -- A lawsuit filed by six current and former players against the NFL and its union seeking to recoup $20 million they lost in an alleged fraud scheme is moving forward.

A judge denied a motion to dismiss, meaning the case in federal court in Atlanta can proceed. No trial date has been set.

...

The lawsuit against the league and union initially included seven plaintiffs, but Marco Coleman's name was dropped from the lawsuit in an amended complaint filed last July.

The players still listed as plaintiffs are Steve Atwater, Ray Crockett, Al Smith, Blaine Bishop, Carlos Emmons and Clyde Simmons. Other plaintiffs include the spouse of one of the players and entities set up by the players or for the players' benefit.

...

The lawsuit claims the union endorsed the services of an investment firm even though its manager had liens against him.

In the lawsuit, the players said the league and the NFLPA are liable for the losses because of investments with hedge fund manager Kirk Wright.

Wright was arrested in Miami Beach, Fla., last May on federal fraud charges. He also faces a lawsuit filed by the Securities and Exchange Commission against him and his company, International Management Associates.
