casino royale - a bond movie only in name....it basically was mission impossible with the lead character named james bond...a fairly enjoyable watch but not a shred of orginality and i realize belief is supposed to be suspended in movies like this but the drowning scene at the end was outrageous

You expected originality from a Bond film? Comparing it to Mission Impossible made me laugh and I don't like Bond films (last one I saw was View to a Kill)

Expecting originality from a Bond film much less a remake of an earlier Bond film seems a bit curious to me as well.

Taken on its own Casino Royale is a great movie for all the reasons I laid out previously.  Like anything else, though, to each his own.

ice grillin you

where did i ever say i expected originality...in fact before i even watched it i posted that i thought it would be right along the lines of a mission impossible

i was merely pointing out that its lack of originality is one of the things that holds it back from being a good movie (not that it was a bad one)

Comparing it to Mission Impossible made me laugh

why?

i cant imagine even a bond fan or someone who really like casino royale to disagree with the assesment that it is very much along the lines of mission impossible
i can take a phrase thats rarely heard...flip it....now its a daily word

igy gettin it done like warrick

im the board pharmacist....always one step above yous

All kidding aside, though...it's not your demonstrated kind of movie.  You're more into the chick flicky, faux pretentious things.  This was a guy movie.

If you didn't expect originality why mention it in your assessment of the film? I saw Mission Impossible once a decade ago and I don't see how the two are remotely similar, aside from the old bitch yapping instructions.

id like someone to tell me how casino royale is NOT like mission impossible

--hero working for a secret govt agency
--loads of action sequences taking place in various locales around the world
--hero succumbs to an almost fatal poisoning
--a cared for female dies

ect ect ect

i can expect a movie to suck and when it does i dont give it a higher rating simply because i knew it would

and in this case just because i expected casino royale to not be original doesnt mean that fact that i was right shouldnt factor into its rating...why would you rate a movie on your expectations of it...you rate it on what you thought of it after seeing it

You didn't like it cause it was a standard Hollywood flick. Special effects, franchise movie name, big budget, was popular etc. If it were some Indy flick made on a small budget you'd be singing a different tune. jmo

You can find similarities between most action/hollywood films if you search hard enough. The above could have described the Star Wars prequels:
- Jedi worked for their government and were a secret order
- There were loads of action scenes that took place on different planets
- Obi Wan and Qui Gonn were poisioned in TPM
- Padme Amidala - the cared for female, died

See how easy that is

couldnt be more wrong...also i never said i didnt like it...it was pretty enjoyable actually...but certainly not something that i will carry with me

exactly my point...except the original star wars were done in an exceptionally original way which is why they were so great and why the new stars wars were an embarrassment as not only were they not original but they were just plain horrible

casino royale couldnt have been less original yet it was enjoyable because it was well made...it was quality there just wasnt anything exceptional about it...like i said standard fare...

I sure hope people didn't expect originality from "Casino Royale".  Where it does differ is from recent Bond films, which have focused more on gadgetry than Bond himself.  They actually developed the character a little bit in this one, which is unimpressive in the grand scheme of cinema but quite a feat for a Bond movie.

Phanatic

Considering how long the Bond series of movies has been around I'd actually say that Mission Impossible is like Bond and not the other way around. If your going to see a new Bond film your going to the origins of the Mission Impossible movie idea really.

That's way to deep for formula action spy thriller with eye candy.  :paranoid

QuoteBerry Rules Out Marriage

Twice-divorced actress Halle Berry insists she will never marry her boyfriend Gabriel Aubry - or anyone else. The Monster's Ball star is adamant no man will ever take her down the aisle again, following her failed marriages to baseball star David Justice and singer Eric Benet. The 40-year-old tells the US edition of In Style magazine, "I will never, never get married again. Actually it's just that now I've come to a place where I think two people can share their lives without the ring, without the piece of paper." Berry has been dating model Aubry, 31, since November 2005. The Oscar-winning star is next set to be seen in thriller Perfect Stranger opposite Bruce Willis.

Sorry, Feva.  Halle won't be wife #2 for you.

I couldn't marry her anyway.  I like her too much for that.
