what's so great about taxi driver?

a better question is what isnt great about it?  Every character in the movie is acted perfect for their role.   The story is great.  The Directing is great. The Music is great.

what's so great about taxi driver?  story?  no.  deniro?  maybe.  you've grown up hearing about it being a classic?  yes.

Story? Yes. DeNiro? Absolutely. I've seen it probably ten times and if anything it gets better every time.

Raging Bull is better, plus it has more action to keep easily bored people from falling asleep, but Taxi Driver is a great movie.

maybe because it took me so long to watch it and i expected some kind of masterpiece, i don't know.  all i know is that movies with great stories don't normally put me to sleep and finish the next day.

Taxi Driver definitely isn't fast-paced, but that's part of what makes it great. It builds quietly towards DeNiro having a very violent metal breakdown. It's an outstanding movie.

I think older movies have a different feel in general anyway. 70's movies had the habit of showing the car drive down the street and pull up to the curb and mind numbing details like that thus slowing everything down. It makes everything seem slower. Now adays we're used to fast moving plots where every ounce of plot detail is crammed into the movie. If the scene doesn't have a purpose in the plot line it's most likely cut. This isn't a bad thing, just different.

That said Raging Bull was a classic though not for everyone. Certainly the main charecter wasn't likable and I think that's a reflection of the real Jake LaMotta. Pretty awesome flick.

Have not seen Taxi Driver in a long time. Might take another look.

Watched the exorsist and what a great movie. Not scary by our standards now a days but I still enjoyed it.

The Exorcist isn't creepy-corpse-jumping-out-at-you scary by today's standards, but it is still one of, if not THE, scariest movie I've ever seen.

What's the word on Borat? I guess the character is from Ali G but I've never seen that show, so I guess my question is will I still find it funny or is it a bunch of inside jokes that you'd have to be a fan of that show to get?

the movie is really funny and i've never seen the show.  well maybe once or twice, but never that character.

Diomedes

the word on Borat is that if you've never seen the show, you'll probably think the movie is a lot funnier than if you're a fan of the show.

i was disappointed in the movie.

Cohen is brilliant.  His comedy is not suited to feature films though.  And it relies on his (now non-existent) anonymity.  When you get a chance, watch a half dozen or so of his HBO episodes...there are some piss-yourself-laughing shows.

Youtubes of the show are funnier than the movie. I loved the show, both British and American movies, and was wholy underwhelmed by the movie.
