Briggs is pissed about the franchise tag and wants out of Chicago

Rome

I love all these clowns getting pissed off about teams using the franchise tags.

:-D

Your union agreed to them so shut the hell up and deal with them like men.  Fairies.

Sgt PSN

The league needs to take a long hard look at this trend and take corrective actions against it.  The Franchise Tag was put in place to help teams be able to retain their best players but it seems like a complete waste if players can just not show up to work.

It seems like any time a team uses the tag, it just pisses the player off and they hold out.  Then the team either trades him or just removes the tag, ala Corey Simon.  If players are going to be allowed to hold out from it, then why even have it in the first place?

PoopyfaceMcGee

I think a simple compromise would be to make the team commit a certain percentage of the year's salary UPFRONT, so if they choose to remove the tag, they lose that "signing bonus".  In turn, the player would have to return the bonus if he holds out.

That said, I agree it's ridiculous that both sides have agreed to the franchise tag clause in the CBA as is, because it's obvious that it simply doesn't work.

Rome

The bottom line is the players union agreed to this concession when they negotiated the last CBA, so any pissing, moaning or acrimony on their parts should be directed at Gene Upshaw and the NFLPA, not the teams.

For Briggs to be irate at the Bears is just ridiculous on his part.

I know these jocks are typically as intelligent as blocks of granite, but not even they can be stupid enough to blame someone else for contract concessions they, themselves agree to.

Cerevant

Well, they agreed to them because they knew that they could blow them off just like this, and suffer no consequences.

Remember kids - an NFL contract is meaningless for both parties.
An ad hominem fallacy consists of asserting that someone's argument is wrong and/or he is wrong to argue at all purely because of something discreditable/not-authoritative about the person or those persons cited by him rather than addressing the soundness of the argument itself.

William James is apparently drawing interest from several teams, per kffl's wire.

PhillyPhreak54

Losing him and Hood = ignorant.

They have to bring James back.

Unless they're targeting a CB in the first round.  If that's the case then Hood & James are both expendable.

Good point.  #26 is a good place in the draft to get a sure thing.

while James has the size, he is coming back from what was almost a career-ending injury (that may scare off some teams...maybe the Eagles too).  personally, I'd rather have Hood back, but he would be pissed to be a #3 CB again.
