I agree that the Eagles have a glaring hole at safety.  I am 100% sure that Lewis is not the answer for it, so I really don't care where he ends up or how he does.

I'm also 99.98% sure that Considine is not the answer.

Bottom line is that keeping Lewis doesn't solve anything, but the Eagles probably won't solve the situation anyway.

PLUMMER RETIRES

Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that Broncos quarterback Jake Plummer has retired in lieu of being traded to Tampa.

Word of the trade broke earlier this morning, but recent published reports suggested that Plummer might pack it in.

Plummer has played 10 NFL seasons.  We have a weird feeling that, after a year or so on the sidelines, he might be lured back.  The Cardinals, for example, will need a backup after Kurt Warner retires, and it would be fitting for Plummer to end his career there.

Well, looks like Garcia has a better option suddenly.

I find that shocking

The funniest part is that the Eagles completely closed the door on him making any decision like that. Nice job, FO.

Did you see Garcia's interview yesterday?  All the stuff he said about wanting to stay with a contender as a backup appeared to be BS.  Now that he has no shot of returning here, he says that he talked to his dad and realized that he loves starting and would rather start anywhere than be a backup.  Hope he enjoys losing and being replaced by JaMarcus...

I'll believe it when I see it. I think the last few years there was talk of the Birds and Brown. He'd maybe be a decent compliment to Westbrook, but I wouldn't get too excited over it.

Brown has very little upside, but he did get that highlight reel clip of trucking Roy Williams, right?

Spads' article on Juqua

The interesting part is the last paragraph:

QuoteIs it enough of a fit, we all have to find out together, that the Eagles are now going to move on and focus on another piece of the defense, one that has to be better than it was a season ago for this team to win a Super Bowl now.

Well, assuming he's hinting that they've already addressed the line as best they can, he could be talking about safety or linebacker.  Here's hoping they address one of those needs in free agency or by trade.

ive already told you they are going to sign a free agent linebacker

As bad an option as Considine is, I hope to christ they put in some serious work to improve the entire LB corps. If they overhauled that whole group with guys with playmaking potential, I would be okay with having Considine back there for another season. Considine is a total gimp in run support, but was good in coverage. With a LB or two that could help to stop the bleeding in the run game, Considine may not be such a liability.

He's damaged goods, but he did get a lot closer to healthy as the season went on last year.  I don't see a lot of quality on the UFA lists, except Adalius Thomas.

Wrong.  He was better than Mike Lewis, but he was far from "good".

"Serviceable" would be about the kindest accurate descriptor.

they need to upgrade the outside spots...spieks is probably better than trot but not appreciably

exactly...because of the lewis factor and because considine is soooo bad in the run game everyone automatically assumes hes some kind of blanket in coverage
