The truth is that there is a party already in existence that represents my beliefs far better than either of the current options. Sadly the most visible representative of that party at any point in the last 20 years is Howard Stern. Not exactly the respectable face of a political revolution...

Not to mention the fact that they keep giving us candidates who are about as viable as Frank Zappa.

I'm not asking for a guy in Brooks Brothers suit.  Just give us someone with a chance to make a tiny dent in the system.  No one in their right mind thinks that a third party candidate will ever win the White House.  But there has to be someone out there serious enough for the voters to consider listening to rather than rolling their eyes over.

I have to say that least favorite thing about the Bush administration is that it has actually forced me to actually care a little about politics. For my entire adult life I've been able to get away with not caring one iota about anything political and therefore enjoyed the position of being able to mock everyone who did care about any of the meaningless bullshtein that people seemed to get in a huff about. No one ever brought up an issue or passed a law that I gave a shtein about.

This administration has done the one and only thing that could have made me pay attention even a little bit. They've started infringing on individual rights so now I have something that I care about and no political party to represent me. farg you Bush.

[school marm]Maybe you have no one to represent you because you've been completely detached your whole adult life??[/school marm]

Dear School Marm,

I have no one to represent me because both of the parties have their heads so far up their ass squabling about shtein that doesn't actually impact anyone that they don't even bother to bat an eye when our country is spying on us, telling us what to do with our bodies and property and where, hunting immigrants and imprisoning people without cause or proof of criminal activity.

This is shtein that has happened for years, I understand, but the degree to which it is now happening and the brazen way that the adminitration carries it off is utterly disgusting.

In other words, eat my ass.

Kisses,

Sorry, you're right. Your apartment will be the first one I bomb. One less far left Democrat to whine it up on the internet.

Socialist? Communist?  Anarchist? I'm not sure what's left on The Left.

Social Democrat comes closest.

I respect your position.  I'm not actually on your ass.  Hence the school marm tags.  I don't know there's anything you can do that would be worth a damn.  I "do" some things, like march and protest, and donate money to political groups, and deliberately spend here but not there for political reasons, and vote and rah rah rah.  Not sure any of what I do matters outside of making me feel like I'm involved.

When I get to Baltimore, I'm gonna start going to town meetings and shtein.  Yeah.  I'm one of those losers.

Washington Post breakdown of current/likely candidates

Interesting that this is the first election in quite some time to not have a sitting President or VP running:

--In 1968, Lyndon Johnson was eligible to run and went through a primary or two before pulling out of the race, mostly due to Eugene McCarthy and new candidate Robert F. Kennedy dominating the polls.  Hubert Humphrey went on to get the nomination that would have most assuredly been Kennedy's if he weren't assassinated, and he went on to lose to Nixon.  George Wallace actually won some southern states.  Texas was the only southern state that Humphrey won.

--1952 was the last time that an election didn't start with a candidate that currently held the title of President or VP, as Truman didn't seek re-election.  Adlai Stevenson got trounced by Eisenhower.  Oddly, the states he won were a jumble of southern states, and he couldn't even hold his home state of Illinois.
