QuoteES In St Louis- The Dinner With A Pro Bowler Blog

WEDNESDAY

Blade calls with bad news. Seems there's a been a snafu & he now won't be coming to St. Louis. An hour later, I realise that the rental car is in his name. I call Sandy at the Park & have that changed so I'll have wheels waiting for me.

SATURDAY

9:30 AM All Packed & ready to go. I stop at Hardee's for breakfast, as it's on the way. Two things happen there. The first being, I have breakfast. Duh. Now the second thing, well.......There's a kid with his siblings & Dad. Keep in mind this isn't just any kid. He's wearing an Eagles jersey. Did I mention it's one of those third alternate black ones? It's also WB36's favorite Wide Receiver, none other then T.O.

Now here's where it gets amusing. The kid has one dollar on him. He keeps trying to buy something that costs two dollars. He just doesn't get it that two is greater then one. Typical bird brained Eagle fan.

10:30 AM Although the airport parking lot is packed & end up parking at the far end of the lot, I breeze through check in & security with no problem. I then head towards my gate.

11:30 AM Board my Delta flight to Hotlanta. I have flashbacks of my last Delta flight there. <shudder>

12:15 PM Arrive in Hotlanta. This time my connecting flight hasn't left like it did last time. I take this as a good sign. However, I have about 20 minutes to catch my connecting flight to St. Louis.

12:30 PM I make the flight. Maybe today Delta won't suck.

2:30 PM I manage to beat the team to the Ritz this time. Upon walking in from the parking garage, I notice a guy wearing a Skins t-shirt. We chat for a minute or two. Turns out he's Rocky McIntosh's dad. Very nice guy. And smart too! He's heard of ExtremeSkins.

3:15 PM Settled in at the room. Unpack the laptop & have my first complaint with the Ritz. Internet access is $9.95 for 24 hours.

3:25 PM Giving in to my ES withdrawals, I go ahead & pay for the net access.

6:15 PM Sitting in the lounge, Dan Snyder walks directly by my table.

6:22 PM Jansen & Albright step out of the elevator & yell at Rabach to come on.

6:25 PM Brunnel is sighted.

6:27 PM Danny Smith is greeted at the table next to me by either friends or family members.

6:39 PM Gregg Williams is now sitting with the same folks that greeted Coach Smith.

6:40 PM I head back to elevator & pass Shawn Springs.

6:41 PM I step off of the elevator to head back to the room for a minute & run into Louis Riddick.

7:15 PM Head back downstairs to the Cigar Room. I'm promptly greeted by Larry, Sonny & Sam. Chit chat for a few minutes, then they head off next door to dinner. I order a "Coke" & a Reuben. Same thing I had here last year when the team took off on a five game win streak. You don't tug on Superman's cape & you don't screw with tradition. The bar tender then asks me who those three gentlemen were. I inform him of the greatness that was just sitting there. He says Sonny was extremely nice. I tell him they don't come any nicer.

7:35 PM In walks Pro Bowler Chris Samuels. I congratulate him on his 4th Pro Bowl. He's a very gracious & humble guy. He orders a dinner of oysters & calamari. I jokingly ask him if they're going to get Betts his 1,000 yards tomorrow. His answer, definately. I make mention how the Rams have one of the worst run defenses in the leauge. Chris tells me how the Rams like to stack the box to shut down the run. I reply with 'Jason can still beat em with his arm.' Chris says that when Jason gets the experiance, he's gonna be good. Not only does he have the arm, he can flat out move when needed. Now unfortunately, the rest of our conversation will have to remain private as it didn't pertain to football, but rather a few personal things.

I love the generalizations... He's probably referring to a 6 year old, when he talks about the kid wearing the jersey who didn't know the difference between 2 and 1.  Nice Art.. you got us there!

Yes, all children who are taterskins fans know that 1 dollar is actually 2 dollars because Coach Gibbs > God and he can do that.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

And here I was so looking forward to hearing about how Chris Samuels rids himself of cloying, sycophantic, taterskins-worshipping assclowns.

QuoteSUNDAY

8:30 AM Dear Santa, all I really want for Christmas is a bottle of aspirin.

8:50 AM Heading out for the Dome now.

9:15 AM Found aspirin. Life is now good. Now to find the parking garage. Good thing the rental has a Garmen navi system.

9:16 AM Parking garage found without a problem. I'm starting to like the navi unit.

9:22 AM Hit the Dome & it's straight in to the elevator to the Press Box.

9:37 AM Once again, I'm promptly greeted by Larry & Sonny.

10:50 AM Off to get set up & have some breakfast.

11:06 AM INACTIVE LIST: Espy, Collins, Rumph, Molinaro, Boschetti, Patten, Kozlowski, & Motgomery

11:10 AM Just back from the field. Although placed IR, Marcus Washington is here signing autographs for kids on the sideline. He even signed a kid's Ramsey jersey. Sean Taylor is running laps with some of the biggest damn headphones I've ever seen. Suisham is splitting the uprights from the 40. And for the Fashion Police, team's wearing white tops with burgundy pants. There's a good showing of Skins fans here already. Hopefully this place will be like last year. Quiet.

11:45 PM Just back from the field again. As the team was going into the locker room Brunell took time to to chat with two kids wear Campbell jerseys. Mark's still an all around classy guy.

12:08 PM Defense held. Time for Betts to get his 1,000 yards.

1:10 PM And there he goes.

1:11 PM GREAT catch by Cooley as JC got hit.

1:12 PM Back to the Betts Show. Crowd's trying to get into it, but there's just not enough crowd here. Guess that's what happens when you get blacked out.

1:13 PM Santana Clause in da hizzie!

1:14 PM One thing on that Betts run, ARE never gave up selling his block.

1:15 PM Duckett in the Red Zone.

1:16 PM TOUCHDOWN T.J. Duckett.
1:37 PM Seems like Andre Carter is really starting to come into his own now. Nice sack on Bulger.

1:38 PM Jimoh? What the hell? You were all up in his grill.

1:41 PM NO way we win this Coach's challenge. If we do, then Santa's wearing zebra stipes this year.

1:45 PM Just a word to all those that ove to bash FedEx for advertising, you should see this place. Every break, there are adds running on the screens.

1:49PM Nice punt by Frost. That one just hung up there forever, ensuring there'd be zero chance of a return. Even better, hit for a loss.

1:54 PM Someone tell the D that Bruce is dangerous. Please.

2:06 PM Well now. BIG special teams play with that blocked punt. Crowd ain't to happy about that.

2:07 PM TOUCHDOWN Betts.

2:08 PM Matt Turk. Good to see some punters never change.

2:16 PM Congrats to Betts on his 1,000 yards before half time.

MORE TO COME........

I don't have enough time to comment on how obnoxious & self-centered Art's "blogs" are. They don't even seem to be focused on the inner workings of the team that the fans are interested in, more than Art trying to blow himself in literary form.

Nice loss to the "little lambs" today.......homos.

Thats the guy TK writing. Art is on "leave" since his old lady is preggo again.

I knew that. ;)

Seriously, they are supposed to be "media members" & they write their articles like taters seeing a player for the first time.

I like how Art has sour grapes with that dude LaCanfora who writes for the Post. He said Art was unprofessional once so now everytime Art blogs he writes how unprofessional the reporter is when he swears.

QuoteAlright guys, I have to admit I wasn't much of a fan of the "sign here" threads when they first started appearning, but they've grown on me a little. And this one's important, IMHO.

We all know that nobody on the planet takes losing as hard and as personally as our own favorite head coach, Joe Gibbs.

The stories of him working into the wee hours of the morning at taterskins Park during his first go-round are legendary. And it could be argued whether the coach was working so hard to win games, or to avoid the searing pain he feels when we lose.

I'd argue it was to avoid the pain of losing. Virtually every successful coach says that the longer you do it, the less joy you get from winning and the more pain you get from losing. Well Coach Joe has always had less stomach for losing than anyone I've ever seen.

If there's anything else I know about Joe Gibbs, it's that when he talks about taterskin fans, he's speaking from his heart. He doesn't pay lip-service to us. We MATTER to him.

Joe Gibbs didn't need to come back to the Washington taterskins. The Washington taterskins, and we the fans, needed him to come back to us. He had already reached the pinnacle of his profession. He had nothing left to prove. He came back because he truly loves this team, and because he didn't want to see it's fans hurt anymore.

It's been a roller coaster ride since Coach Gibbs came back, more downs than ups. But I, for one, appreciate the sacrifices that coach has made to give this thing a shot at all. And I know he'll see it through.

I believe in you, Joe Jackson Gibbs. You're still the great coach I grew up watching. And as hard as it is to believe, you're an even better man. You will get this ship turned around. I'm behind you win or lose, and thankful beyond belief that you're the leader of this football team.

With all respect to your lovely wife, coach, Pat was wrong. You're not going to ruin your good name. Your strength and your faith in difficult times has only cemented your good name. And WHEN you get ring #4, that'll just top it off.

God bless you coach, and Merry Christmas. We're behind you no matter what.

:puke Merry Xmas from Racist Fans.

QuoteMerry Christmas Coach Gibbs.

I wish Santa would have brought a win.

I still believe.

QuoteMy main criticism of the coaches this year is not getting the team's rookies and younger players in there earlier in the year.... but I said it the day he was re-signed to the taterskins, and I'll say it again - I'd rather go 0-16 with Gibbs leading a team that I can believe in versus rooting for a Spurrier or Norv lead team that thinks of the taterskins as Club Med.

With this coaching staff, we know that we wont lose due to lack of effort

QuoteI'll sign something like this any day. It's not blind faith. It's not a "Gibbs is God" type of response or feeling. It's not drinking kool aid either. So for those of you who wish to lay anything like that in here save it for somewhere where something like that may be more suited. Like a first grade class or something. It is a confidence in a coach, a man, who has demonstrated that he can coach in this league. That he can bring teams out of things like this. A man who as recently as last season, brought his team from the brink and led them to the playoffs. It is a man who recently has had players quoted saying they would like to stay with the taterskins. Despite the way things are right now. Bill Parcells once stated about Lawrence Taylor that ; "He has a confidence born of demonstrated ability."

That is what I am talking about now. Coach has been there done that, given the tshirts away and has more to give. I have a similar confidence in Joe Gibbs now. Not just because he has more knowledge about football in his pinky finger than anyone here has in their head. Not just because he does this day in day out and knows more about the players, their capabilities, and limitations than anyone here could ever hope to know. Not just because he has 3 rings that tell everyone else he's still been further than a majority of coaches have or ever will. No. It's more than just that.

It's his willingness to take things upon his shoulders and do whatever is necessary for his team and the organization to bring them back to a winning tradition. To bring them back to respectability. His willingness not only to hold the players accountable for the teams troubles but he and his coaches as well. His devotion to this team and to its fans. He is, in many ways, a leader that I to this day, aspire to be. It takes all of the above, I think, to bring teams back from such seasons and Joe possesses all of that needless to say. That and as I have stated, he has done all this before. Has he made some mistakes in his day? Absolutely. And Joe would and has been the first person to admit it. I'm betting for every mistake that we see after the fact, Joe sees 10 times that number. The important question for some is, can he or will learn from them? He's done it before so I'm betting he'll do it again.
