We took on the name taterskins in part to honor one of our early coaches who was part Sioux

This true?

It's a long standing rumor but I don't think there's ever been any actual proof.  In fact, I think there is documented proof that the coach in question did not have Sioux (or any Native American) ancestry at all.

I read that thread the other night, they start out patting each other on the back about how 'taterskins' is to signify respect and honor than get bitchslapped by this guy with the cold hearted truth:

I'm sorry my friend your word origin is TOTALLY wrong. Until the DallasCowboys came into existance, the taterskins were the only team to play in the American south. Hence, the theme song Hail to the taterskins implored "fighting for old Dixie", referenced scalping, alleged that all Native Americans are drug-addicted failures, and encouraged a policy of manifest destiny by donating smallpox-infected blankets.

And as far as racist? George Preston Marshall(who was racist as hell) didn't even want the team to segregate. Under owner George Preston Marshall, the taterskins were the last team in the NFL to integrate and allow black players. Marshall pressured other owners to segregate the league in 1934. Despite the color barrier being broken in 1946, the taterskins held out until 1962 when their lease at RFK Stadium was threatened. Racial tensions remained high, as All-American RB Ernie Davis refused to play for the team. Integration was not fully achieved until the taterskins received some old-fashioned Nubian beatdowns at the hands of the Cleveland Browns.

So according to Native Americans, the name is offensive as hell. Thats like naming them the "Washington Porch Monkeys" because the city is predominately black.

What makes this thread even better is that 3/4 of them claim they are or know someone who is 'Native American' and how they don't take offense to the name.

Wow, just wow. Thats completely nuts.....but I can't say I'm surprised, the parking staff has enough trouble pointing me to an empty parking spot.

hahahahaha.  What farging planet was this guy trying to park on?  There was about 200 yards of open lot between our tailgate and the stadium.

I'll bet you 20 bucks the Racists starting the taunting.  As far as I'm concerned, good.  They got what was coming to them.  Pieces of shtein.    Thats what you get for living in the 1800s.  Join the rest of civilization in the new millenium. 

For the running over crap.  That could have been any wild ass driving tailing out of the parking lot.  I'm sure the Eagle fans also had a giant ploy to make sure none of the EMTs in the immediate area could get to the man while he was writhing in pain over his ankle. 

They really have no one to blame but themselves anyway.   Next time they should sell their tickets to other Racist fans if they don't want any Eagle fans at the games.

Wow, even with our beloved Joe Gibbs at the helm this franchise is ****ed up.

Do you forget we were one win from the NFC Championship last year? I'm sure you were singing a different tune last January. We had a bad year. Get over it. We'll be good again.

It hasn't been all bad the last 15 years. Did you think we were "one of the jokes of the league" last year? Of course you didn't, and neither did anyone else. This year has been riddled with injuries and bad performances. All we can hope for is a healthy team next year. If we have Portis and Springs back for the whole season, we will be a good team.

We will be good again. Gibbs has promised to stay until he gets it right. I don't know about you but I take comfort in that.

I dont feel we are that bad to don the bags. I proposed to do so back when Brunell had the starting qb slot. now I am ok with the team. Next year will be our year :-)
