Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

I submit this to you...

QuoteThere was VERY little turnover of players in those old days. I have been to 3 games at Fed Ex, none at RFK...I live in Arizona...but the times I was at Fed Ex, it tryuely seemed like the most magical place on earth. I could die there.

You know I'm part native american, I don't give a damn about the name of the franchise. I mean it might be a little insensitive, but really...I have plenty of other things to point and laugh at without needing to call them racists for having the football team named taterskins. I mean I'm sure it was degrading to Native Americans to have white people call them "Cheif" too, but no one's crying about Kansas City's name.

A Chief is the head of the tribe, it's also a rank in the Navy, it's not nearly as degrading as the name 'taterskin' is.

I think the Chiefs have come under attack from Native Americans but not to the extent of the taterskins.

Because, as you said, Chief is the leader of the tribe.  It's a position of honor, prestige, blah blah blah.  There's nothing demeaning about it.

Another thing with the Chiefs is that their logo is an arrowhead, not an actual indian.  And their mascot is a friggin Wolf.  Although it looks more like a mouse than a wolf imo.

I was never in favor of the Skins changing their name but I'm changing my stance on that now.
But not because I want them to be more politically correct.  I just think it would be hilarious if skins fan had to go out and buy all new gear.  Hopefully they'd all go broke and couldn't afford to keep teh internets, thus making it a more enjoyable place for everyone else.  Plus, it would really piss them off and I think that would be super.

Munson

Yeah, an arrowhead is very stereotypical. Not all Native Americans today use arrowheads. :boom

No but seriously...it shouldn't be an issue, but then again I'm very...not uptight...when it comes to ish like this.

But that laast part of your post has a VERY good point...I think I might ahve to agree with you and want them to change it :-D

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

It's a flawless theory.  Actually, it's not even a theory.  It's fact.  And flawless.  Just like me.

Jason Campbell is the messiah and we're going to the promised land.

He's serious, too.

QuoteWith all of the talk about the Skins turnaround, the articles, and so on, there hasn't been alot of talk about Campbell. This kid is for real, and the players believe in him. I think the inpired play we saw from the whole team last Sunday was as much about Campbell's presence as it was about the article, Gibbs' meeting with the team, or anything else. The players, especially the oline, are rallying around JC and raising their games.

Now, we've got 5 games to go, and we probably have to win them all to get the playoffs. Hmm something feels familiar here, and our next 2 games are at home against 2 struggling teams.

I think we'll see inspired play from here on out. Gibbs is going to take back control of his team, and the players believe they have a chance again with Campbell in there. Will they run they table? I don't know, the Saints in New Orleans is looking like a pretty tough game right now. This is though, the beginning of the turnaround and getting back to greatness.

Despite all of the doom and gloom, and all the whining about the team needing a GM, the Skins are not near as bad off as many believe. Our first rounder will probably be used on the dline, and the team will look for veteran, blue collar FAs to add to the oline and secondary.

Next offseason, Gibbs will go back to his roots of physical, tough training camps, and the team will finally learn the whole offense. Campbell will have the whole camp as the #1 QB, and he and the taterskins will come back for the 07 season ready to go.

This is the beginning of an era, and it all starts with Campbell. This is going to be fun.

I whole heartedly agree with this part of that dude's post.  They will add blue collar free agents next year.  And they'll pay a king's ransom for them too.  I can't wait until they sign Mike Lewis to a 6 yr, $80million contract.

MDS

That way they can have 4 strong safeties?

Obviously.

The best part is they'll sign him to that much money and talk about how much they needed a safety who could cover.

I wonder how Danny will pay off the NFL to keep the cap hit low when they cut Archuletta. >:( :boom

QuoteExtremeSkins Fan View: You Could?
By Arthur Mills

The defense was so good I could cry.

Ten weeks of largely lifeless play on a team far closer to 1-9 than 3-7, and then against Carolina last Sunday we get what was strangely reminiscent of what we've seen before with this team--and what we thought we had with this team.

Apparently all that's required to get our guys to play like they care is an anonymous source on the team bad-mouthing the defensive coaching and being yelled at by the head coach.

One wonders if the anonymous player was right about the dysfunction of the defense given how it was possible for it to actually play in the dominating fashion it did against Carolina. Gregg Williams arrogantly appeared to call plays requiring Xs and Os to meet and not have Os run through the Xs. Nutty professor he.

We really ought to run him out of here for not doing that sooner, as his insistence players not cover or tackle or play their assignments or techniques really put a damper on the season. When Shaw...er, someone called him out suggesting the team lacked the personnel or coaching to play to the level expected, the anonymous player probably should have been sure it couldn't.

That's why I could cry.

This team's struggles were from a defense that seemed without heart, fight or intellect. It couldn't cover or tackle. It couldn't rush the passer or stop the run. It was a defense so completely, shockingly bad, you could only watch what you were seeing, shaking your head, thinking to yourself, "Hey, Cowboy fans are right. We do suck."

Not that we'd admit that to them. To them we just say stuff like Romo's a momo, I think is what we say. We be clever.

Those struggles now appear not to be based on a lack of talent or a lack of coaching. Instead, an ego contest pitting proud players feeling they receive too little credit for the job they do against coaches too smart for their own good who needed a comeuppance brought us to this point.

Pride for the team never materializing until the season appears largely lost. Selfishness reigned. Seriously, for weeks Carlos Rogers appeared to have the reaction time of a stone being shaped by a slow moving creek. Suddenly he's breaking on passes and actually touching them so they can't be caught.

Rogers is a sharp-dressed man. He can dance, though someone should explain to him Dirty South rap is just not that good. But, for weeks he was a human dart board where every pass hit a bulls eye. Was he coached better to play better or did he play better to play better. Number twenty-fou...er, someone should anonymously tell us.

Oddly, after watching that defense play as it did, I was infuriated.

Not since Norv Turner called his last sweep on third and eight have I been so discouraged by this team. Win or lose, I thought Joe Gibbs had found quality, character guys capable of putting petty differences aside for the good of the team.

Instead, I find an element of squawking crybaby intrigue best left for daytime soaps.

Oh my goodness, corners and safeties have separate meetings. So do linebackers and corners. What's the shocking dealio, man?

Genius coaches who put the slice into bread took this long to find a way to get the defensive line to generate pressure? Sean Taylor took this long to be the reaper again? You could get interceptions? You could make stops? You could tackle? You could stop the run? You could be in position to make plays?

All this time, you could?

I was almost happier thinking you just lost it than to know you always had it but let personality conflicts cause this nightmare season.

Now I know you didn't care enough about each other or us, as fans, to be the team you clearly were capable of being. You didn't accomplish anything against the Panthers but to show how much you let us all down for so long.

You owed each other more.

You owed us more.

In Seattle last year, after the loss to the Seahawks in the playoffs, I entered the locker room swelled with pride for the team I thought you were becoming. I so greatly admired the fight, tenacity, attitude and toughness that defined you.

Dozens of fans were outside waiting for you in the cold when you got back. A few of you stayed and signed autographs and talked at 3 a.m.

You didn't win the Super Bowl, but you were all we could have ever asked for as a team.

I hope you are all as mad at yourselves for how much you've lost this year that goes so far beyond the scores.

I hope you respect each other again so we can respect you again.

It's too late to start over. So, go ahead and start now.

MDS

One win against a mediocre team=talk of turnaround, tears and superbowls. I hate them.
