The 2GB Nano is $149. That can fit plenty of music, 500 songs about 30-35 CD's. More space more $. Great gift

my iPod quit after less than two years. it was a gift I never would have laid out cash for myself, and so i never replaced it.  it was alright and all, but whatever.  i'd rather save for a house, or buy drugs.

iPod shuffle 1 gig holds about 240 songs for <$90.  If you want it for travel, working out, etc, it's perfect for that.  And with frequent refreshes of your songs of iTunes, it never gets old.

Since we're on the ipod topic today, I was loading up some videos on my ipod  :paranoid before a business trip.  My ipod crapped out and deleted all my songs.  I had put over 300 cd's on my ipod over a 6 month period, and it was all gone w/no backup i just started the slow process of importing the cd's again  :'(

nothing.  the brand name, thats it.

i got a 512MB mp3 player for $30 at circuit city.  holds about 8-9 full albums at once, enough that i only have to change it every two weeks or so.  you can larger ones, like 1GB-2GB, for less than $100 for sure.  it's just as small as an ipod.

and you don't have to farg with itunes, you basically just plug it into your comp and it acts like a hard drive, you just drag and drop.

ice grillin you

that sounds much better....so ipods can sell for so much more simply because of good marketing by apple

how about the batteries in mp3 players...same lifespan before you have to recharge...and what about headphones...can you hook up studio headphones to an mp3 player or do you have to use ear pieces or small walkman type johnsons

Has anyone seen the Microsoft equivalent to the iPod?  I think its called Zune.  Wonder if its any good.   One guy was saying the buttons felt like cheap plastic.

I recently got 4 gig Sandisk Sansa players for both me and the wife-- for less than $90 each.  That's a pretty sweet deal.  They're highly rated, and they have a nifty microSD expansion slot for even more space.  They're a little smaller than the iPod mini, but these also play video.  Actually, in addition to the picture thing, it has an integrated voice recorder, FM stereo and picture viewer.  Love it.

I have a Sandisk Sansa also and love it.

Oh, I should mention how I got the Sansa's on the cheap-- Buy.com had them on sale, then there was a $30 Sandisk rebate, and another $10 off for using the Google checkout option.  If you really wanted to save some cash, you could sign up for a buy.com credit card and get another $30 off (I did that for something else).

Anyway, the point is, if you research it and hold off for a deal, you can do pretty well.
