They can't even look forward to a good draft pick...  :-D

I'm not prepared to make fun of the taterskins on that count until we can determine that the Eagles won't be in the same boat.

The Eagles can't be in the same boat because the Eagles didn't ensure the Broncos get a top 10 pick like the taterskins did... for T.J. Duckett  :-D

As of 7:30PM:

10 = Broncos (from WSH)
23 = Eagles
30 = taterskins (from DEN)

Well worth it. They wouldn't be 3-6 without him.
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

Tell it to these idiots who are thinking of what to do with their "top 10" pick in the draft next year.  :-D

QuoteWho gives a rats butt about the draft? We stink at the draft. We either get players we don't play or the ones we do suck. I get so tired of hearing about where we are going to draft. WE could have the top five picks in the draft and we would be lucky to get one player who could play. And don't shake your head when you read this, you know it's true

QuoteJust like the early Snyder years, too many high priced FA's. Remember what Deon and Bruce did for us. The whole team chemistry changes when you bring in high priced great potential free agent players. What does this do to the guys who have stuck it out through thick and thin, like Jansen, Samuels, and Wynn. Only Randle El is earning his bonus. Need to trade the whole 06 FA signees minus Randle El in the off season and get some draft picks. It all starts upstairs. We need someone else (NOT My Cousin Vinny) who can actually spot new talent.

Victory smells good.

PHILADELPHIA -- They are obscenely mismanaged, sloppily coached, have a stumbling, panicked and mummified Mark Brunell for a quarterback and are unbelievably unlucky.

Other than that, the Washington taterskins are just fine.

Let's be honest: It's time for Mark Brunell to hang it up.

This version of owner Daniel Snyder's latest boondoggle is just as bad as other money-pit teams he has bankrolled. Snyder's bucks do not lead to a bang, they lead to a belch.

Thus, Snyder and his bulging checking accounts will be watching the NFL playoffs from a summer home in Aruba, while the Philadelphia Eagles jumped right back into the thick of the NFC East title race after administering a stern 27-3 thumping to the Deadskins on a dreary, Philadelphia Sunday.

If things were not bad enough for 3-6 Washington, in a season the team was supposed to make the playoffs but probably won't, yet again, the 'Skins lost their excellent running back, Clinton Portis, early in the game to a broken hand. He will be out a significant amount of time.

When it rains, it hurricanes.

This was an at times ugly and sloppy contest on a rainy and windy afternoon. The Eagles were victorious because they played with more urgency than Washington, especially early on. Philadelphia jumped to a 17-0 lead, keyed by a beautiful 84-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Donovan McNabb to Dante' Stallworth. The ball traveled aloft some 50 yards in a tight spiral and landed right into the hands of the lanky wideout.
Then, after a David Akers 25-yard field goal, Brunell, whose career is so done that he should be twisting over an open fire with an apple in his mouth, tossed yet another pick, this one landing in the mitts of defensive back Sheldon Brown, who returned it 70 yards for a touchdown. It was 27-3. Game over. Washington season over.

The score does not truly indicate how well 5-4 Philadelphia played and how badly Washington did.
While Washington continued its steady trek into the abyss, electric-slide style, this game might signify the beginning of an Eagles run.

It did not look that way before Sunday. Philadelphia entered the game with three consecutive losses. The losing caused a moment of doubt inside the locker room, and both players and coaches began to soul search.

"Those three losses put us into position where we had to look at ourselves in the mirror," said linebacker Shawn Barber.
Then he added: "We were emotionally dead."

That would change. A good week of practice was followed by this fiery performance against Washington. The defense flew to the ball and was aggressive, knocking out Portis, chumping Brunell and holding the Washington offense to 132 passing yards.

Philadelphia ended its plague of dropped passes that has tortured it recently, and McNabb did not throw an interception and finished with an 88.9 passer rating.

The reason why Philadelphia came out hot was no accident. While Andy Reid has the personality of a piece of cantaloupe, he is a brilliant head coach unafraid to make examinations of himself and his coaching staff. He turned over the offensive play calling to Marty Mornhinweg, a move that control freaks like Reid hate to do.

Reid didn't stop there. According to several Eagles players, he challenged his team, particularly the leaders, to play with a sense of urgency and passion.

The team's linebackers coach, every week, provides his unit with motivational material. This time was no different. He handed out a sheet with a quote on it that had the headline: "Inspire each other."

There was an Internet story that basically called the Eagles soft. Somehow, miraculously, that found its way into the hands of some defensive players. Hey, whatever works.

Reid and his coaching staff truly earned their collective paychecks this week. Reid is now 8-0 in his Philadelphia career after byes.

The Eagles are dangerous again. They're not a perfect team, but they're dangerous. When that defense plays like this, the team can match up with almost anyone.

"All players have a lot of pride," said Brown. "We're no different. We didn't like how we looked in those three games so we worked hard to change things. We practiced harder, we studied harder and we played better."

What will be interesting to observe is how the Eagles handle their schedule. After they play Tennessee on Nov. 19, it is brutal. They have games against Indianapolis, Carolina and travel to Washington, the New York Giants and Dallas, followed by the regular-season finale against Atlanta that could determine a playoff spot.

As for the 'Skins, well, they are a disaster. More importantly, they are a cautionary tale. While Joe Gibbs, the Hall of Fame coach who has been un-Hall-like since his return to football, deserves his share of the blame, the main problem remains the attitude of the owner and the franchise overall.

In the salary cap era, spending your way to a title simply does not work in football.

The taterskins will ponder that throughout the offseason, as they again watch the playoffs on CBS.

With one of those nice fruity drinks in their hands.

Because the Deadskins' season is over.

uh....when was a condition added that the taterskins had to make the playoffs for the swap to go into effect?  ???

damn, that means they keep it  :boom

SD_Eagle5

I read that too but wasn't sure if they were just talking out their ass.

QuoteThe Skins have to make the playoffs for there to be a chance of the 1st round picks to be swapped. If they miss the playoffs, Denver gets the Skins '07 3rd and '08 4th regardless of how high the 3rd round pick is.

PoopyfaceMcGee

I think any "journalist" using the name "Deadskins" a couple times in his article is probably a pretty decent guy to hang out with... but not a very good journalist.

I mean... it's just pointing out the obvious, isn't it?  They suck.  Brunell should be sold off for glue.

I should get out of the t-shirt business and make bumper stickers outta this.  I bet it'll catch on really quick.
