Big Earthquake Hits Hawaii

Don Ho is in Honolulu, which wasn't close to the earthquake but still lost most of their power.

After the tsunami a couple of years back, I'd be climbing the highest mountain peak in Hawaii. I'd be able to live off coconuts, fish and dead tourists.

I love you guys!

All is well. What a day. Got up at 6:30 AM. Son and I headed to sports bar down the street. Scored the HDTV with some other birds fans - all four of us. 7:05 AM Saints driving and all hell breaks loose. They are now calling it a 6.9. It was freaky. I swear it lasted close to 30 seconds. It's funny now but I will never forget everyone's expressions on their faces! Whole bar was freaking out. There was a small after shock about 5 minutes later and I never saw my buddy move so fast in his life. He was out the door so fat my head spun. Scary thing is the bar is right on the water at a marina about 200 yards from the ocean. Definite flood/tsunami zone. No electricity for 16 hours. I was able to pick up some of the outer island radio stations to get the scores. Unfortunately had to follow the birds game on my wife's cell phone. What a bummer. Now time to head to the Eagles/Saints Game Thread as I have no idea what "really" happened in the game.

If PG has anything to say about it, the Earthquake was a result of California trying to physically secede from the Union. Earthquakes are fun when there's no damage, death or tsunamis.

Nothing major. The Kona side of the big island got it good. Typical damage- roads, bridges, few houses beat up. The Kona Hospital got hit pretty good.

Looks like I can finally afford some beachfront, uh cliff front property.

We just camped at Kiholo Bay over Memorial Day weekend (picture above is not Kiholo). That was where the epicenter was. The place is absolutely beautiful. Crystal clear water, turtles everywhere, fresh water springs flowing into these lagoons. Just amazing. Place is very rustic so I am sure it took a beating.

I was amused by a story on our local news this morning. The typical "local couple describes their vacation experience" dumbass story. Apparently after the main quake, the couple ran out to the beach to see if a tsunami was forming.

Good to hear Don's OK. I was in a rather large earthquake when stationed in Guam in the early 90's. 7.3 I think. I know how scared I was and how fast we all moved out the door. Seems like no one was seriously hurt and that is pretty amazing for an earthquake that size.
