Baltimore's Jay Gibbons pulled off an unimaginable feat: He hit a foul ball that injured his wife.

The scene occurred in the ninth inning of the Orioles' game against Minnesota on Saturday at Camden Yards. Gibbons fouled a ball straight back over the screen and into the rib cage of his wife, Laura.

"She's just a little bruised up. She's going to be OK," Gibbons said yesterday.

Gibbons said he had asked team officials to do something about making it safer to sit in the seats behind the plate. He contended that the 20-foot screen does not offer enough protection from hard-hit foul balls.

I used to work stadium cameras for the Reds.  I was in the 3rd base dugout for a game against the Astros.  Craig Biggio's up to bat and lines a HARD foul ball into the stands along the 1st baseline.  I'm all the way across the field and hear a big smack.  I shoot over that way and zoom in on this old lady... had to be about 65-70 years old... she took it right in the mouth.  When I get the focus on the camera, she's already got blood pouring out of her nose and some guy is trying to catch it and tilt her head back.  After a little bit, I can see that the guy's holding some of her teeth and by the time the emergency crew comes along with the wheelchair, her face and shirt is covered in crimson.
