Need help getting a new Wireless Network for my house

I currently have D Link and have had nothing but problems with the router and card. I just purchased a new D Link desktop wireless card monday which i lose signal every 5 minutes. I had to replace the old card which was giving me the blue screen of death every time i downloaded large files.

My current setup is Comcast Cable into the house with the modem downstairs next to my TV and 360. I'm looking at the MiMo type of wireless networking du2 higher speeds but cant find any new relevant info on what units work the best. The desktop computer i will need to install the new wireless card is maybe 20 feet from the base unit right now. Any Techies help me out.

I've been very happy with my Netgear stuff. No reason to skimp on brands, because even the top brand-name stuff is very affordable, as long as you know what unnecessary technology to avoid. Mine's really similar to this one. Then you could either use a PCI adaptor or a portable USB or a less portable USB.

Sure, there is now "N" technology out, but a good, solid "G" adaptor will work just as well in 9 out of 10 scenarios, including yours. You should be able to find the stuff on amazon.com or the ilk and probably get some sort of rebate.

I've had two Linksys models, one that was an old "b" and a new one, a "g" that supports Vonage. The new one I got for free, actually, when I signed up for Vonage. I have two laptops, a desktop, my ps2 and my Tivo hooked into it and haven't had any problems.

The more I read about it, people have less troubles with Linksys than Netgear in general.

D Link is basically garbage. Their customer service is quick but dont really answer any questions. I've upgraded firmware 3 times and kept getting the blue screen of death. So i got the new desktop card monday, and now i cant keep a signal. I've been reading about how good the wireless N can be but havent seen any concrete positives on any models.

N is fine, but completely unnecessary for your setup.

It's not the level of technology that's giving you the blue screen. It's the software and hardware not getting along.

Yep. Now is N that much faster or just not necessary for regular Cable modems? Would there be a speed difference between N and G that i would notice?

If you transfer large amounts of large files amongst your own home network, you might notice the difference there. You will not, however, notice a difference with the speed of your internet connection, because cable modems are restricted by the major cable companies with regards to bandwidth. That's why you can pay for for "business" service, because then they allow you more flow of data.

Like I said, G technology is as good as 9 (or more) out 10 people can possibly use.

811. b...i get it FF. I wasnt sure what the big deal was with Super G and Wireless N(if i could download quicker) Thanks for the answers, and then ridiculing me.
