Todd Hollandsworth just made an AMAZING grab to save the game. You'll be seeing it on ESPN.

Lieby would've scored on that.

If they win, yes.

Fultz lines out to the drawn in SS.

Rowand up now with 1 out.

Why do I see a 6-4-3 DP in our future?

PhillyPhreak54

Wheels just said "Get 'er done". :-D

Rowand jumps out of the way of the ball....very close to hitting him. come on aaron, you've been hit 16 times already take it

But he makes up for it!!!

Basehit for Rowand!

6-5 Phils. :yay

The Reds had to use two starting pitchers to pitch tonight including the starter for tomorrow (Ramriez)

Howie will always hate on the Phils. They punk'd his Pop back in the day and he still holds a grudge.

And when Franklin came in I said to my boy that he would shut 'em down. That always happens. They let some scrub go and then he hurts them.

Excellent win tonight. The fact that they fought back after Gordon's BS is big. Coste has been huge.

Geowhizzer

That was an excellent game.  :yay

I thought they were sunk in the 13th.  Thank the good Lord for Griffey's chronicly bad hammy...  :paranoid

Rome

I watched the game at the pub last night and had about 10 Reds fans busting my crackers after Gordon blew it in the ninth.

I've been watching games there for almost 15 years and have never seen a Bengals fan much less a Reds fan there in all that time.

:-D

Great game, though.

cj henry piece in the inky today...

Trying to find his footing
C.J. Henry, now with Lakewood, admits he has learning to do.
By Keith Pompey

LAKEWOOD, N.J. - C.J. Henry is an intriguing mix of raw talent, disappointing performances and extreme confidence.

Henry was the 17th overall selection in the first round of the 2005 amateur baseball draft by the New York Yankees out of Putnam City High School in Oklahoma City.

The 20-year-old struggled in the Yankees' farm system before being one of four Bronx Bombers prospects traded to the Phillies for Bobby Abreu and Cory Lidle on July 30.

And now, as the shortstop for the Phillies' single-A Lakewood BlueClaws, Henry refuses to listen to those who question why the Yankees gave him a $1,575,000 signing bonus last summer.

"I'm still learning," Henry said yesterday, hours before making his home debut at FirstEnergy Park. "So when I say that I am going to surprise some people, it is going to take me a couple of years to get it down. Once I get it down, I'm going to take off."

So far, the only thing Henry is doing is striking out a lot.

In his 131 games as a minor-leaguer before last night, Henry had struck out in every 3.6 at-bats. He's also had a career batting average of just .238.

Despite his dismal statistics, Lakewood hitting coach Kenny Dominguez said Henry is still a hot prospect.

"Obviously, at times, people's expectations, they want things yesterday," Dominguez said. "But in this particular game, it doesn't always happen that quick... . For me, it's not the timetable. It's the process. Will he get better? Yes, he will. Is he going to be really good? I think he has a chance to be really good."

But is he playing the right sport?

Some might argue that Henry should have honored his commitment to play basketball at the University of Kansas instead of playing professional baseball.

In high school, the 6-foot-3, 205-pounder excelled in basketball, baseball, and track and field. Many people in his hometown expected Henry to keep with his family's tradition of playing college basketball.

His parents, Carl Sr. and Barbara, both played basketball at Kansas. Carl later spent two seasons with Sacramento Kings as a shooting guard.

Barbara's sister, Vicki Summers, played basketball at Kansas, and brother, Joe Adkins, played hoops at Oklahoma State.

Add to all that the fact that Henry's younger brother, Xavier, has the potential to be the best hoopster in the family. A 6-6 shooting guard, Xavier is recognized by numerous publications and recruiting analysts as one of nation's premier rising high school sophomores.

"Basketball is in our blood," said Henry, a three-time Oklahoma Class 6-A all-state combo guard who averaged 22 points as a senior.

Despite his family's success on the court, Henry's decision to play baseball didn't come as a surprise.

He hit .481 with 13 home runs, 41 RBIs, 52 runs scored and 21 stolen bases in his senior year at high school to become a USA Today all-USA selection. Baseball America ranked him the second-best prep athlete in the 2005 draft behind Arizona prospect Justin Upton.

"If I went to Kansas, I would have had to play in college for a couple of years before [going pro]," he said. "Baseball was first opportunity to go pro."

And for the first time in his athletic career, Henry is able to focus on just baseball. While in high school, he didn't practice in the preseason due to his basketball team consistently going deep in the postseason. And covering 400 meters in 49 seconds, he ran track when not playing baseball in the spring.

While showing glimpses of power last season, Henry hit only .249 for the rookie-level Gulf Coast League Yankees. He did, however, steal 17 bases in 48 games.

Henry didn't fare much better in the 77 games he played with single-A Charleston this season before being traded. He was hitting just .240 with two homers and 33 RBIs. And 86 of his 275 at-bats ended in strikeouts. He also committed 25 errors.

"At first, I thought the Yankees maybe gave up on me," Henry said. "But the more I thought about it, I realized that they really didn't. They were just trying to win right now. They just had to get the best player that they could get."

While Abreu and Lidle are paying dividends for the Yankees, Henry continues to struggle. Heading into last night's contest, he had a .227 batting average to go with three RBIs, six strikeouts and two errors in six games with Lakewood.

But he's not concerned.

"Everything in high school, all of the accolades I had, that was just on ability, natural talent," Henry said. "Once I get some instruction and playing every day, I will be fine. I don't worry about basketball right now."

How are they in a playoff race at 2 games under .500?
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.
