Got to the morning session about 15 minutes before the official start. Special teams practice was already going on. I waited around the prearranged spot and met up with Phreak (and some others). Met Spew, then watched everybody else don their field passes, so I figured I'd better find a spot with the riff-raff. But because I waited, the "good" bleachers filled up...so I went to the other side of the opposite field. So some of the pics are bad, what with all the zooming and such. Sorry in advance.

My overall impression was that it's obviously early in camp. Quite a few mental miscues. Linemen jumping the snap, receivers (especially Reggie Brown) dropping fairly easy passes, and stuff like that. Hopefully it's something that improves.

Again I watched Koy's lack of throwing velocity at work. That guy's passes take 15 minutes to get to the receivers. I don't know how he does it. Garcia's throws, on the other hand, were zippy. Not nearly as hot as McNabb's, but visibly better than Detmer's.

I was impressed with Gocong's size. I thought he was smaller, but seeing him next to other players helped show me that he's okay in the size department.

I wasn't near the field where they were running a lot of the offense, but from a distance, I did see Buckhalter make some nice plays, both running and receiving. I'm feeling cautiously optimistic about him.

I watched J.R. Reed, and he seemed to be constantly aware of his feet. He was a little touchy looking when he had to backpeddle. When he was walking, he was looking at his feet all the time. And when he was standing around, he was shifting his weight back and forth, lifting and shaking his free foot. I'm not feeling great about him.

Anyway...enjoy some pics:

Gocong with G. Lewis...

Our new LT. It's going to take some getting used to...

Jim Johnson barking instructions...

The huddle, from the far field...

Reed backpeddling...

Darwin Walker and Darren Howard in DL drills...

General DL guys...

DL seconds: McDougle, Rayburn, Jasper, and Cole...

Reed, playing with his feet again...

I don' see any difference...

The obligatory Pinderhughes shot...

Garcia, whipping one out...

G. Lewis, making a nice catch and toe tap...

Was McNabb actually waving to the crowd? I don't know...

L.J. Smith, about to haul one in...

And Justice for Cole...

Is this holding?

Chang watches. Assistant picks nose. Garcia picks flower...

That's it for now. Thanks for your patience!

Nicely done, Sus.  Makes us out-of-towners almost feel like we were there.  Almost.

By the way, was it friggin hot up there?  Today's high was "only 91," but the humidity was above 70%, making it feel like eleventy bazillion degrees.

Not sure how the players that weigh 250, 300+ pounds make it through all those practices in the middle of these heat waves.

Today had a nice breeze so it was nice out there.  Didn't watch the afternoon practice....we played football in the media parking lot instead.  Sorry Sus....we were running late and didn't get there until around 9:30.  Had lunch with Spadaro.  Our group gave him a $640 bill.  Good times.

Stuff here and there from among the group:

-- Adam Caplan was there and barely watched any of the practice
-- Saw Sal Pal standing away from the crowds and barely watching, but he took time to say that Matt McCoy looked like garbage.  Thanks Sal.
-- Got to meet Reuben Frank and also saw GCobb, Hugh Douglas, Ashley McGeachy-Fox, John Smallwood and Les Bowen.  Supposedly Fat Lenny P was there too, though I didn't see him
-- Garcia = McMahon with a lisp.  Passes floating, very little deep passing.  Better hope for blowouts or a full season from DMac
-- the O-Line is massive
-- D-Line looked great, especially Howard.  He beat Justice on back-to-back plays.  McDougle also chased down McNabb on one play
-- Reggie Brown had a nice TD (40 yds?) on a double reverse, but otherwise the WRs were average.  Baskett had several drops.  Gaffney was meh.  G-Lew barely did anything.  No Pinkston today.
-- seemed like there were a lot more running plays than passes
-- Best hit of the day:  LJ Smith and Mikell
-- Akers was hitting from 50+...and Dirk was the holder the whole time, not Detmer
-- Kearse was wearing a U of F mouthpiece
-- a deal with Dawk will get done.  M-Lew is "50/50" right now
-- they want Tapeh to win the FB job, but it depends on injuries
-- Gocong will likely be starting at SLB next year
-- the center job is Jackson's to lose.  Fraley was working with the 2nd team today
-- Jasper is done and probably won't make the team.  LaJuan Ramsey will likely beat him out.
-- Bloom's hamstring tear is only partial and he should play this year.  They won't hide him on IR.

I hung out with Ed all day.  He has a great arm and talks dirty to ladies.

I think the Eagles played too.  I also asked Tom Heckert personally if they were trading for Ashley Lelie.  He laughed.  He totally went "ha ha".  I also drank like 7 Jager bombs on Uncle Lurie's tab.

Yay training camp.
